Logan Thomas, 49ers Agree to New Contract in NFL Free Agency After Release
The San Francisco 49ers announced Thursday that they have re-signed tight end Logan Thomas to a one-year deal.
Thomas signed with the 49ers in free agency in June but was released in August. Now back with the team, San Francisco will look to the veteran to serve as a solid backup for star George Kittle.
Along with re-signing Thomas, the 49ers announced they have added safety Tayler Hawkins to the waived/injured list.

Report: Seahawks Sign Veteran Edge
Drafted in 2014 out of Virginia Tech, Thomas came into the league as a quarterback but transitioned to tight end in 2016, where he has found much more success. He got his first NFL reps in 2017 with the Buffalo Bills and remained with them in 2018 before joining the Detroit Lions in 2019.
Thomas spent the last four years with the Washington Commanders, where he had one of the best seasons of his career a year ago, recording 55 catches for 496 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
Despite a solid season, the Commanders released Thomas in March in a move that saved them the $6.5 million and $500,000 roster bonus he was due in 2024.
The 49ers lost a pair of backup tight ends over the offseason. Both Charlie Woerner and Ross Dwelley departed for the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, which prompted San Francisco to sign Thomas.
Thomas has the chance to be the 49ers' primary backup behind Kittle, but he'll have to compete with a room that features Eric Saubert, Brayden Willis, Cameron Latu and Mason Pline. Thomas had the best season out of all of those players last year, and he'll hope that's enough to earn plenty of playing time.
