Jacksonville Jaguars: Free Agents Who Need to Be on Their Radar
While the NFL draft and selecting the team's next head coach are fresh on everyone's mind down at EverBank Field, some consideration needs to be made to the free agents who will be on the open market in the coming months.
Can the Jaguars make as much of a splash in free agency offensive signings as they did last season in scooping up defensive starters?
While names like Drew Brees, Ray Rice and Arian Foster (a restricted free agent) are almost assured of resigning with their current teams, there are some names out there who could provide some help for the 5-11 Jaguars. And they're not all on offense, although the majority are.
These guys could be in play when Shahid Khan opens his checkbook over the spring and summer months.
Dwayne Bowe, Receiver, Kansas City
1 of 7I think he probably will be back in Kansas City. But Bowe is a big, athletic receiver, one this team has not had since the days of Jimmy Smith.
The way Blaine Gabbert throws a pass may be an issue for Bowe, much like it is for Marcedes Lewis.
Bowe has the ability to be a deep threat and big end-zone target.
Marques Colston, Receiver, New Orleans
2 of 7The only thing that could be better about the Jaguars getting Colston in free agency is that they have a head coach like a Pete Carmichael who will open the passing game.
Colston is a tall and lean receiver who's quick and a great red-zone target.
Colston would easily be the best receiver the Jags have had in at least five seasons.
Ben Grubbs, Guard, Baltimore
3 of 7He's a former first-round pick of the Ravens who has been entrenched on the line since his rookie year.
Grubbs gives the Jaguars a grader on the inside—something they need to help with pass protection as well.
Grubbs will be a major attraction on the open market, and the Jaguars should be looking fairly hard.
Reggie Wayne, Receiver, Indianapolis
4 of 7Even in his 30s, Wayne is better than what the team has now.
Wayne has spent his career hurting the Jaguars' secondary. He would also provide some leadership in the locker room, which Jacksonville needs.
He also becomes a dependable possession receiver in the slot or on the outside.
Pierre Garcon, Receiver, Indianapolis
5 of 7Imagine Garcon and Cecil Shorts as starters for the Jaguars. Two receivers from Mount Union.
Garcon has been a good dependable receiver for the Colts and has proven to be a good go-to receiver on third down.
He has speed to burn as well, which is something the receivers need on this team.
Jason Campbell, Quarterback, Oakland
6 of 7This may be the most interesting of the choices.
The Jaguars need a veteran with a good arm to come in and challenge Blaine Gabbert.
And if Gabbert cannot get it done, then Campbell is more than capable of leading this team to wins and maybe a playoff spot.
Yes, I know I said that.
