Fantasy Alert: Josh Jacobs' Versatility, Running Style Hyped by Packers' Matt LaFleur

Paul KasabianAug 9, 2024

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur praised Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs' power and versatility while making remarks regarding the team's current RB1 and their old one, Aaron Jones, who is now leading the Minnesota Vikings' backfield.

"Definitely two different style of backs," LaFleur told ESPN's Dan Graziano. "Aaron is more of a slasher, make you miss, where Jacobs is a power, like, gonna-try-to-run-you-over kind of guy. But the one thing they do have in common is they're both legitimate threats out of the backfield, I would say. Both have really good hands. So to me, in today's game that's an important piece. What else can you do? The versatility piece."

The table is set for Jacobs to have a monster fantasy season. His ceiling could be similar to 2022, when the then-Las Vegas Raiders running back finished the year with 2,053 total yards and 12 touchdowns.

In Green Bay, Jacobs is now part of an exciting offense that made great strides at the end of last year and sports an exciting, young quarterback with great potential in Jordan Love. Jacobs could find himself with plenty of opportunities to score touchdowns, and he's also averaged 39.4 receptions per season, adding to his fantasy value.

The biggest concern may be Jacobs' dropoff in efficiency last year. He rushed for 4.9 yards per carry in 2022 but only 3.5 YPC in 2023. But the starting offensive line on paper should be stout. There are questions about depth right now, but if the O-line stays healthy, Jacobs should easily be in line to amass more than 1,000 total yards for his sixth straight season.
