MLB Exec: Yankees, Cubs Should Focus Trade on Jasson Dominguez, Taillon amid Rumors
An anonymous MLB executive suggested the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs as trade partners in a deal that could potentially involve starter Jameson Taillon as well as prospect Jasson Dominguez.
"Center a package around Jameson Taillon and/or reliever Mark Leiter Jr. to the Yankees for Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones," the executive said, per ESPN's Jesse Rogers.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network also reported that the Cubs are "another potential Yankees trade partner" on Thursday.
With Chicago falling further out of the National League wild-card race, president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer told reporters on Monday that the front office will make moves that help the team during the 2025 season and beyond "unless things change dramatically."
Taillon could be a player on the move, as the 32-year-old is in the midst of an impressive season on the mound. In 17 starts, he has a 7-5 record to go along with a 2.96 ERA. He's also familiar with New York, making 61 starts for the Yankees from 2021 through 2022.
Although Dominguez hasn't appeared in a Triple-A game since June 15 due to an oblique strain, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman may be hesitant to give up one of the team's top assets.
The 21-year-old hit .258 with four home runs throughout eight games in the majors during the 2023 season and currently ranks as the No. 27 overall prospect in Bleacher Report's latest top 100 prospect rankings.
Still, the Yankees may be desperate to acquire some veteran help and prepare for a postseason push after going 10-22 since June 15.
