Video: Joey Chestnut Eats 57 Hot Dogs at Army Base amid Nathan's Eating Contest Ban
Joey Chestnut's Fourth of July looked a bit different this year.
Instead of competing against some of the best eaters in the world at the 2024 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island, Chestnut faced off against soldiers at the Pop Goes the Fort event at Fort Bliss Army Base.
He took on a crew of soldiers at Fort Bliss and outlasted the competition, eating 57 hot dogs to take the victory over the collection of soldiers, who ate 49.

The clock was only 5:30, which is just over half the time of the Nathan's contest. He was on pace to break his record of 76 hot dogs in the Nathan's contest.
Chestnut wasn't present at the Coney Island contest due to receiving a ban for partnering with Impossible Foods. That brand has a vegan hot dog made from plants, which prompted Nathan's to ban Chestnut due to him representing a rival brand.
Chestnut has won the Nathan's contest 16 times and had won it eight consecutive times before the ban. In the 2024 contest, Patrick Bertoletti would take home the victory after consuming 58 hot dogs.
Chestnut had engulfed 62 in the 2023 event, and his performance at Fort Bliss shows what he could have accomplished at Coney Island. While fans missed the chance to watch Chestnut contend against Bertoletti on July 4, they will get a chance to see the eating icon on the big stage very soon.
Chestnut is set to take on Takeru Kobayashi in a one-on-one battle during Labor Day Weekend. It will be broadcast on Netflix.
