AL Scout Rips Yankees Lineup amid Injuries: 'Top 4 Can Get It Done and That's It'
The depth of the New York Yankees lineup has been called into question.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that some AL foes believe that a lack of production from the bottom of the order could be what limits the franchise's chance for success this season.
"The problem is when you take out your five- and six-hole hitters, you end up replacing them with down-in-the-order guys," one AL scout told Heyman. "So your new five- and six-hole hitters are Torres and LeMahieu and they both [are struggling] now. Their lineup looks like the top four can get it done and that's it. And wait 'til Judge goes down."

This comes after Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain. This obviously removes him from the lineup for the near future, and he has been pretty productive for the Yankees from the fifth spot in the lineup.
The Yankees will likely look to D.J. LeMahieu and Gleyber Torres to take over the spot in the middle of the order, but neither infielder has had a particular strong year and will likely not replace Stanton's production.
While an injury in June may not have major implications in October, especially since the Yankees currently own the best record in MLB, the inevitable nature of injuries could be something the ball club has to navigate during an important stretch or in the postseason.
It is early enough to potentially address this issue, as the trade deadline is not until July 30. Adding some bats prior to that day may be what New York focuses on if the bottom of the order fails to be more productive.
