Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton Goes on IL with Hamstring Injury; Expected to Miss 4 Weeks
The New York Yankees will be without one of their most powerful sluggers for the foreseeable future.
The team announced on Sunday that Giancarlo Stanton has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain and Oswald Peraza has been recalled from Triple-A to take his spot on the roster.
Stanton said on Sunday that he expects to miss about four weeks:

Stanton exited Saturday's 8-3 win over the Atlanta Braves with what was initially described as hamstring tightness. He hit a double in the fourth inning but was seen wincing when he rounded third base after Gleyber Torres hit a double that allowed him to score a run. He informed Yankees manager Aaron Boone that he needed to be removed from the game after that play.
"He's in pretty good spirits," Boone said after the game. "Obviously he's dealt with these kind of things in the past. So hopefully it's not something that keeps him down too long."
The injured list has become familiar territory for Stanton at this stage in his career, as he's missed a combined 266 games over the last five seasons. He dealt with left hamstring strains in 2020 and in 2023, being limited to 101 games last year.
Stanton had been on track for his healthiest year since he appeared in 158 games in 2018, which was the first season he played with the Yankees after he was acquired in a trade with the Miami Marlins. He appeared in 69 of New York's first 79 games and hit .246 with 18 home runs and 47 RBI.
"He's been such a force for this offense," Yankees star Aaron Judge said of Stanton. "Hitting the homers, coming up clutch with guys on base -- that's a big part of his game. Hopefully, we get some good news."
While the Yankees will miss having Stanton's power in their lineup, they will still be in good shape with Judge and Juan Soto leading the way. New York will look to win the series against Atlanta in Sunday's rubber game.
