Dodgers Prospects Who Can Still Make an MLB Impact in 2024

Joel ReuterJun 13, 2024

The Los Angeles Dodgers have maintained a strong pipeline of young, homegrown talent over the years, and this season is no different with starter Gavin Stone and outfielder Andy Pages both going from prospects to MLB regulars.

With that said, they could still get positive contributions from a handful of other notable prospects before the season is over, whether it's in a supporting role or stepping into an opportunity created by injury.

Ahead, we've highlighted three prospects who can still make an MLB impact in 2024, focusing solely on players who have not yet appeared in the majors this year.

IF Andre Lipcius

The Dodgers acquired Andre Lipcius from the Detroit Tigers during the offseason in exchange for cash considerations, and that could end up being the latest in a long line of solid under-the-radar moves made by the LA front office.

Lipcius, 26, was a third-round pick in 2019 and he made his MLB debut last season when he went 10-for-35 with one double and one home run after being promoted as a September call-up.

The Dodgers designated him for assignment a few weeks after acquiring him and managed to sneak him through waivers, so he is not currently on the 40-man roster, but he could force his way into the MLB picture before the year is over.

He is currently hitting .315/.387/.606 with 15 doubles, 17 home runs and 52 RBI in 60 games at Triple-A, and he provides plenty of versatility with starts at first base, second base and third base this year.

LHP Justin Wrobleski

Injuries have forced the Dodgers to dig deep into their pitching depth already this season, with 27 different pitchers making at least one appearance and 11 of those guys making at least one start on the mound.

They will get a boost once Bobby Miller returns from the injured list and Clayton Kershaw is still working his way toward his 2024 debut, but if they need to dig any further into their pool of pitching prospects, Justin Wrobleski is someone to keep an eye on.

The 23-year-old posted a 2.90 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 109 strikeouts in 102.1 innings during a breakout season at High-A Great Lakes in 2023, and he has continued to impress while making the often difficult jump to Double-A.

The left-hander has a 3.41 ERA in 60.2 innings, and more importantly he has trimmed his walk rate from 8.3 to 4.9 percent. His future might be as a back-of-the-rotation starter, but he could make a more immediate impact as a multi-inning reliever if called up in 2024.

SS Trey Sweeney

The Dodgers acquired Trey Sweeney in a swap with the New York Yankees that sent infield prospect Jorbit Vivas and MLB reliever Victor González the other way back in December.

Sweeney, 24, was the No. 20 overall pick in the 2021 draft following a stellar junior season at Eastern Illinois when he hit .382/.522/.712 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI in 48 games.

He has shown good power and the defensive chops to stick at shortstop throughout his time in the minors, and now he is knocking on the door with a strong start to the 2024 season at Triple-A.

Sweeney is hitting .250/.342/.443 with 13 doubles, 10 home runs, 42 RBI and 11 steals in 60 games, and he has been hot of late with a .947 OPS in 39 plate appearances since the calendar flipped to June.
