Yankees Prospects Who Can Still Make an MLB Impact in 2024
The New York Yankees have the current AL Rookie of the Year front-runner in starting pitcher Luis Gil, and he likely won't be the only up-and-comer asked to make an impact before the 2024 season is over.
The AL East leaders could still get positive contributions from a handful of other notable prospects before the season is over, whether it's in a supporting role or stepping into an opportunity created by injury.
Ahead, we've highlighted three prospects who can still make an MLB impact in 2024, focusing solely on players who have not yet appeared in the majors.
OF Everson Pereira
1 of 3
Somewhat overshadowed while climbing the minor league ranks by the more highly touted Jasson Dominguez, fellow outfielder Everson Pereira has the potential to be a starting outfielder in the big leagues as well.
The 23-year-old hit .300/.373/.548 with 18 home runs and 64 RBI in 81 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season while also getting his first taste of the big leagues, though he hit just .151 with 40 strikeouts in 103 plate appearances in the majors.
With an .859 OPS and 10 home runs in 40 games back at Triple-A to open the 2024 season, he has little left to prove in the minors, and he's an easy call-up since he is already part of the 40-man roster.
C/1B Ben Rice
2 of 3
Ben Rice had little opportunity to prove himself during his three years at Dartmouth, playing in just 30 total games as a result of the abridged 2020 season and cancelled 2021 Ivy League schedule.
A solid showing in summer ball helped keep him on the draft radar, and the Yankees took him in the 12th round of the 2021 draft.
His pro career started off slow, but he exploded onto the top prospect scene in 2023 when he hit .324/.434/.615 with 20 home runs and 68 RBI in 73 games across three minor league levels, closing out the year at Double-A.
The 25-year-old has continued to rake in the upper levels of the minors this season, including a ridiculous .455/.571/1.000 line with three doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in six games since he was promoted to Triple-A.
It remains to be seen if he has the glove to stick behind the plate, but it's his bat that will carry him to the big leagues.
OF Jasson Dominguez
3 of 3
It's only a matter of time before Jasson Dominguez is back in The Show.
The 21-year-old took a step toward living up to the massive hype last season when he made his MLB debut at the age of 20 and posted a 157 OPS+ with four home runs in 33 plate appearances before suffering an elbow injury.
He ended up needing Tommy John surgery and was sidelined to start the year while he continued to recover, but he has been raking since starting a rehab assignment in the middle of May.
In 20 games since returning to action, he is hitting .368/.415/.658 with six home runs and 13 RBI, and while the Yankees have a full outfield with Aaron Judge, Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo, he could force his way into a MLB role if he continues to hit.
