Álex Rodríguez Jokes Yankees Are More Likely to Retire David Ortiz's Number Than His
Álex Rodríguez isn't expecting to be immortalized at Yankee Stadium anytime soon.
Walking around the stadium Saturday ahead of the Bronx Bombers' matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz asked Rodríguez when his No. 13 jersey might get retired. A-Rod didn't miss a beat when dismissing the idea:

This encapsulates a wider problem with Rodríguez's legacy within the game.
Like many stars of his era, the 48-year-old's reputation was irreparably damaged thanks to his connection to performance-enhancing drugs. In his three years on the Hall of Fame ballot, he has yet to eclipse 36 percent of the vote despite being a 14-time All-Star and three-time MVP..
And unlike Barry Bonds, Rodríguez didn't even manage to forge a strong bond with a specific fanbase. Bonds has long received a cold shoulder from the Hall of Fame, but he's a sainted figure in the Bay Area.
Rodríguez burned his bridges in the Pacific Northwest when he left the Seattle Mariners for the Texas Rangers in 2001. He only spent three years in Texas, each of which saw the Rangers finish with a losing record, so his tenure there isn't recalled all that fondly. And he was always going to be unloved in the Big Apple because Yankees fans had hitched their wagons to Derek Jeter long before he arrived.
It appears A-Rod has at least made peace with how he'll be remembered.
