Senior Bowl: Penn State's Devon Still Gets Another Chance to Put on Show
Penn State defensive tackle Devon Still made a name for himself this season as one of the top defensive players in the country, but his season ended on a down note as he battled through turf toe against Houston in a TicketCity Bowl loss and flu-like symptoms against Wisconsin in the regular season finale.
Later this month, Still will have one more chance to prove his abilities on a national stage. Still is one of four Penn State players heading to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
Penn State will send four players to the nation's top college all-star game. Still will be joined by defensive end Jack Crawford, defensive back D'Anton Lynn and offensive lineman Johnnie Troutman. It is the highest representation in the Senior Bowl by Penn State since sending five players in 2003, including running back Larry Johnson and defensive end Michael Haynes. They, along with receiver Bryant Johnson, were first-round draft picks in that year's NFL Draft.
“This is the most Penn State players we’ve had in our game in nine years and all are very deserving of this opportunity,” Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said in the Senior Bowl press release.
“We feel like we identified four strong prospects and are looking forward to watching them compete in front of the National Football League here at the Senior Bowl.”
Still is looking forward to participate in the game, which many consider the last big event before the NFL Scouting Combine.
“I think it’s a great opportunity because I get to go up against some of the best players in the country and I get to prove that I’m also one of the best players in the country, so I’m definitely looking forward to playing in the game,” Still said through a press release issued by Penn State.
“I just want to make sure that there’s no doubt in people’s minds, especially in scout’s minds and coaches minds, that I am in fact the best defensive tackle,” Still added.
“I’m just looking forward to going against some of the best offensive guards and offensive tackles and just prove that I am a number one defensive tackle.”
The Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, Jan. 28 and will air on NFL Network. NFL Network also televises Senior Bowl practices all week leading up to the game.
