World Football: 10 Most Noteworthy Transfers of the January Transfer Window
It has been called 31 Days of Chaos—a period of time which is considered by many to be somewhat ridiculous, unnecessary and over the top.
These adjectives are mainly reserved for the most memorable day—the last day of the January Transfer Window—transfer deadline day.
This is the fairly ridiculous helicopter freak show of nerves and extraordinarily high transfer fees.
Landon Donovan to Everton
1 of 10The American playmaker/winger is exactly what Everton needs.
He can be the center of all things like Mikel Arteta and can score the goals as well, exactly what Everton doesn't have.
Marco Reus to Borussia Dortmund
2 of 10Okay, this doesn't exactly replenish Dortmund this season.
German wonder-kid Marco Reus has signed for Borussia Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Another lethal winger/striker added to Dortmund's arsenal.
Jose Antonio Reyes to Sevilla
3 of 10Jose's coming home.
Back to his hometown club, that is.
The Atletico Madrid creative striker was sold to Sevilla for a fee of 4.5 million pounds—a transfer that sort of highlights the further decline of Atletico Madrid.
Gelson Fernandes to Wolfsburg
4 of 10The Swiss defensive midfielder will be a key addition to Wolfsburg. He is a good prospect and is one of the key players in the Swiss National squad.
It is good to see him develop in one of Europe's top leagues.
Thierry Henry to Arsenal
5 of 10Henry is still a legend at the club he once left.
His recently erected statue proves his stature at Arsenal. Furthermore, he has now taken up a form of messianic status with the Arsenal fan base because he has signed for a two month loan deal to Arsenal.
Marco Borriello to Juventus
6 of 10Marco Boriello is a striker who can hold up the ball very well and finish just as successfully, a great candidate for the wide forward position in a false nine 4-3-3 that Luis Enrique employs.
Conte has this kind of flexible system and Borriello could fit in. However, Conte has many strikers already, so it's unlikely Borriello will get much game time.
Alberto Gilardino to Genoa
7 of 10Andrea Carraciolo is Genoa's Alberto Gilardino—a target man who looks to flick on and play short passes near the opposition half. However, he has been overshadowed by Rodrigo Palacio's form this season.
Gilardino is being brought in to get more goals.
Eduardo Vargas to Napoli
8 of 10Vargas is the definitive South American winger. He was the best player in the Universidad de Chile side which won the Copa Sudamericana this season, and humiliated Ronaldinho's Flamengo 4-0.
He is mobile and skillful, with a good shot.
Emmanuel Frimpong to Wolves
9 of 10The young Ghanaian has been loaned to a team which suits his style of play very well.
Like Steven Fletcher, Kevin Doyle and Karl Henry, Frimpong is a hard tackler and energetic defensive midfielder, who is best suited to a box-to-box defensive role.
Being at Wolves will also give him discipline.
Federico Macheda to QPR
10 of 10Federico Macheda provides a dimension to QPR's play that DJ Campbell, Heidar Helguson and Jay Bothroyd cannot.
He is just slick.
His skills, his acceleration and his finishing are all great, but he is not just an all-around poacher, he can also play on the wing.
