Tyreek Hill on Dolphins Contract Talks: 'Being Greedy Ain't Gonna Help the Team'

Doric SamJun 4, 2024

Amid a slew of major contract extensions for wide receivers this offseason, many believed that Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill would be in line for a new deal.

However, Hill told reporters at OTAs on Tuesday that he's not concerned about his contract because he doesn't want to put the Dolphins in a financial hole.

"I want to be able to help the team as much as I can, and obviously we already know that being greedy ain't gonna help the team, so whatever happens, happens," he said.

Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson reset the wide receiver market on Monday by agreeing to a four-year, $140 million contract extension that includes $110 million guaranteed and $88.7 million due at signing, which makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. In addition to his deal, Hill's teammate Jaylen Waddle, Detroit Lions star Amon-Ra St. Brown and Philadelphia Eagles stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith all cashed in on big-money deals this offseason.

Hill's agent Drew Rosenhaus indicated after Jefferson's deal was announced that he is pushing for his client to be next to receive a significant bump in salary.

"Let's just say it's safe to acknowledge that I've been in touch with [general manager] Chris Grier and [SVP] Brandon Shore," Rosenhaus told Fox affiliate WSVN-TV. "I certainly have a fluid line of communication with them, and I've shared with them how Tyreek feels. And I'll also reiterate that Tyreek has said that he would love to finish his career with the Dolphins. So, without getting into any specifics, the Dolphins know how we feel."

Hill is set to make $19.6 million in 2024, well below the $35 million average annual salary on Jefferson's deal. After leading the league with 1,799 receiving yards in 2023, it's clear that he deserves to be paid among the top receivers in the NFL.

However, it sounds like Hill would be content with playing below market value if it gives the Dolphins a better chance at competing for a Super Bowl title.
