NFL Fans Drop Memes About CeeDee Lamb, Ja'Marr Chase After Justin Jefferson Contract

Adam WellsJun 3, 2024

If CeeDee Lamb and Ja'Marr Chase were waiting to see what Justin Jefferson got on his extension before working on their next contracts, they had to be thrilled with what they saw Monday.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Jefferson agreed to a four-year, $140 million extension with the Minnesota Vikings that includes $110 million guaranteed.

As soon as Jefferson's deal was reported, NFL fans went to work dropping memes about Lamb and Chase amid negotiations with their respective teams.

Lamb's situation with the Dallas Cowboys would seem to be more pressing than Chase's with the Cincinnati Bengals. Lamb has been extension-eligible for two years and is entering the final season of his rookie deal.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said prior to the NFL draft he wants "to see more leaves fall" as the team is looking at potential new deals for Lamb, Micah Parsons and Dak Prescott.

As the leaves keep falling on the receiver contract tree, it's bad news if Jones was hoping he might be able to land a discount for Lamb.

Jefferson is now the fourth receiver to get a contract worth at least $30 million annually, along with A.J. Brown, Tyreek Hill and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Jaylen Waddle just missed that threshold on the three-year, $84.8 million extension that he received from the Miami Dolphins to last week.

If nothing else, Jefferson's contract at least informs the Cowboys where they might have to start in talks with Lamb.

The Bengals seemingly have to resolve the ongoing situation with Tee Higgins before moving onto Chase. Higgins, who has yet to sign the franchise tag, has said he anticipates playing in Cincinnati this season despite his trade request.

Both wide receivers were absent from Bengals' voluntary organized team activities last week. Chase is eligible to sign an extension for the first time this offseason, but he is under contract through 2025 after the Bengals picked up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal in April.

Given where the receiver market is going, it would seem to be in the best interest of the Cowboys and Bengals to get a deal done with their star players sooner than later.

By waiting as long as they have so far, both teams are looking at potentially having to pay more than they might have anticipated when the offseason started.
