The Dallas Mavericks had a prime opportunity to close out the Western Conference Finals on their home floor on Tuesday, but they suffered a 105-100 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves to extend the series.

While speaking to reporters after the game, star point guard Luka Dončić shouldered the blame for the loss and also had nice things to say about Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards.

"It's fine. I think that game is on me, just didn't give enough energy, so we gotta do better. They won one game, so we just gotta focus on the next one," Dončić said, later describing Edwards as "an amazing player."

Dončić led the Mavs with 28 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in Tuesday's loss. However, he shot 7-of-21 from the field and missed a key free throw with under a minute left that would've cut the Timberwolves' lead to two.

To make matters worse, Dončić's running mate Kyrie Irving had his worst game of the series with just 16 points on 6-of-18 shooting. Dallas jacked up 40 three-pointers and connected on just 14 (35 percent). The team was without rookie center Dereck Lively II, who has provided great energy on both ends of the floor but was forced to sit out due to a neck strain suffered in Sunday's Game 3.

Meanwhile, Edwards dropped 29 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists while shooting 11-of-25 from the field. He finally got some support from Timberwolves star big man Karl-Anthony Towns, who had his best game of the series with 25 points in 30 minutes of action before he fouled out in the fourth quarter.

With the series heading back to Minnesota, momentum appears to be shifting to the side of the Timberwolves. Despite still facing a 3-1 deficit, the team seemed to figure out an effective defensive strategy to stop Dončić and Irving.

The Mavs are seeking their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011, so Dončić and company will undoubtedly be motivated to close things out in Game 5 on Thursday.
