Kansas St vs. Arkansas: Battle of the QBs Will Be Must-See TV
Watching two quarterbacks lead their offenses up and down the field makes for some of the best football to watch on television.
It's why this year’s Cotton Bowl will be very entertaining as Kansas State’s Collin Klein and his run first, pass second style will try to outdo Arkansas Tyler Wilson’s deadly passing attack.
Why Klein Will Be Must-See TV
Klein did not have a great year passing the ball. He only had a completion percentage of 57.8, 1,745 passing yards and 12 touchdowns. All of those numbers ranked Kansas State either near the bottom or dead last in the Big 12.
However, a huge reason as to why Kansas State is 10-2 is because of Klein’s ability to run outside of the pocket.
Klein’s rushing stats of 1,099 yards, 26 touchdowns and an average yards per carry of 3.8 made him one of the best quarterbacks in the Big 12.
Klein’s style of play led Kansas State to huge victories this year over Texas A&M, Texas, Baylor and Miami (FL). In each of those games, Klein had multiple touchdowns, with his best passing game coming against Baylor, where he had two touchdowns and 146 passing yards. His best rushing game came against Texas A&M where he had 103 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
Against an Arkansas defense that gave up 174 yards per game and 20 touchdowns to running backs this year, Klein will have no problems putting up points.
Why Wilson Will Be Must-See TV
Wilson was one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC. Against some of the best defenses in the country, Wilson was still able to have a great season with a completion percentage of 63.1, 3,422 passing yards and 22 touchdowns.
On the year, Wilson had four games where he threw for 300 yards or more, with his highest yard total coming against Texas A&M (510 yards).
While the individual stats are impressive, what makes Wilson and this Arkansas passing game is the fact that they were the No. 1 overall passing offense in the SEC, a division that features the No. 1 and 2 defenses in the country.
Wilson should have no problem finding holes in the Kansas State secondary, as the Wildcats ranked in the bottom half of the Big 12 this year in passing defense. Kansas State allowed opposing quarterbacks to throw for 267 yards per game while giving up 24 touchdowns.
Which Quarterback Will Be Victorious
It's hard to pick which quarterback will lead their team to victory in the Cotton Bowl. Each player has a specific skill set that will benefit against the opposing defense.
It will be great to watch if Wilson’s passing attack can win out over Klein’s ground game.
