Celtics' Jrue Holiday, Derrick White Earn Contract Bonuses After NBA All-Defense Nods
Jrue Holiday and Derrick White have their eyes on the NBA title with the Eastern Conference Finals starting Tuesday, but the Boston Celtics guards received another prize on the same day.
The NBA announced the All-Defensive teams Tuesday, and both Holiday and White were on the Second Team. ESPN's Bobby Marks noted White earned a $250,000 bonus and Holiday earned a $139,200 bonus as a result.
Here is a look at the All-Defensive Teams:
2023-24 NBA All-Defensive First Team
- Victor Wembanyama, C, San Antonio Spurs
- Anthony Davis, C, Los Angeles Lakers
- Rudy Gobert, C, Minnesota Timberwolves
- Herb Jones, F, New Orleans Pelicans
- Bam Adebayo, C, Miami Heat
2023-24 NBA All-Defensive Second Team
- Alex Caruso, G, Chicago Bulls
- Jrue Holiday, G, Boston Celtics
- Jalen Suggs, G, Orlando Magic
- Derrick White, G, Boston Celtics
- Jaden McDaniels, F, Minnesota Timberwolves
Boston finished second in the league in defensive rating, per NBA.com, in large part because of the on-ball pressure that White and Holiday provide. They also bother perimeter shooters and take much of the pressure off Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on that side of the ball.
Only the Minnesota Timberwolves had a better defensive rating this season, and they also had multiple All-Defensive selections in Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels.
White and Holiday will be put to the test against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, as they will be tasked with slowing down Tyrese Haliburton. The Pacers point guard is a triple-double threat every time he steps on the floor, so Boston's chances of advancing to the NBA Finals may depend on its impressive defensive duo.
