Bronny James Reveals Advice from LeBron and Talks Playing Together amid Lakers Rumors

As he continues to prepare for the 2024 NBA draft, Bronny James revealed this week what advice he has received from his famous father.

During an appearance Monday on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Bronny divulged what his dad, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, has taught him that he has been able to apply to his basketball career thus far:

"Just be yourself," Bronny said. "I feel like that was driven into my head pretty well, and I feel like that's gotten me a long way."

Bronny was also asked about the possibility of being LeBron's teammate in the NBA, and while he acknowledged that it would be special, he also made it clear that it isn't something he is worried about currently.

"It'd mean a lot for sure, but that's not my main focus right now," Bronny said. "My main focus is to actually get to the league. That's just plus points on top that I could share the court with my dad. I feel like it'd be a great experience."

There has long been talk about LeBron and Bronny potentially becoming the first father-son duo in NBA history, and LeBron himself has talked about wanting to make it happen.

However, LeBron changed his stance a bit last year, telling ESPN's Dave McMenamin the following:

"I've done what I've had to do in this league, and my son is going to take his journey. And whatever his journey, however his journey lays out, he's going to do what's best for him. And as his dad, and his mom, Savannah, and his brother and sister, we're going to support him in whatever he decides to do. So, just because that's my aspiration or my goal, doesn't mean it's his. And I'm absolutely OK with that."

Bronny has also been steadfast in trying to separate his NBA journey from his father's, as he recently told reporters:

"My dream has always just been to put my name out, make a name for myself and get to the NBA.

"Everything that follows my dad, people just try to link me with that and all the greatness that he's achieved. I haven't done anything yet, so I feel like there needs to be that divide between Bronny and LeBron."

Bronny struggled in his first and only collegiate season at USC, averaging just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Part of the reason for that was the fact that he missed the first eight games of the season after undergoing a heart procedure.

Even so, Bronny simultaneously entered the 2024 NBA draft and the NCAA transfer portal, meaning he still could withdraw from the draft, return to college and potentially play somewhere other than USC next season.

While Bronny would likely benefit from more seasoning before attempting to make the jump to the NBA, the fact that he is LeBron's son undoubtedly does put him on teams' radars more than other prospects.

Also, despite what Bronny and LeBron have said, the Lakers would be a sensible landing spot, and they have the draft capital to make it happen with the Nos. 17 and 55 overall picks.

Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday that the Lakers' pick at No. 55 is "seen by league sources at Bronny's floor," should he decide to remain in the draft pool.
