Anthony Edwards Explains Wolves' Game 6 Success: 'S--t, We Got Mike Conley Back'
Anthony Edwards is the star of the Minnesota Timberwolves, but he was immediately ready to share the praise after helping lead his team to a 115-70 victory over the Denver Nuggets in Game 6 of their second-round playoff series.
"S--t, we got Mike Conley back," he told reporters when asked what the difference was between the Game 6 win and Game 5 loss. "That was it."
Conley was sidelined for Game 5 on the road with an Achilles injury, and the Timberwolves lost by 15 points and failed to generate enough offense to keep up with Nikola Jokić's dominant performance.
That was anything but the case in Game 6 as Minnesota set the tone right from the start with a 20-0 run in the first quarter. It never looked back as Edwards led the way with 27 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Jaden McDaniels also played well with 21 points, while Conley provided that veteran leadership and ability to consistently make the right play that Edwards highlighted on his way to 13 points, five assists and four rebounds behind 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 shooting from deep.
While Conley is not going to carry a team to victory like Edwards can, there is something to be said about controlling the pace, hitting outside shots when Denver's defense collapses on the go-to options and providing solid perimeter defense.
He also allows Edwards to play more off the ball, which makes it more difficult for the Nuggets to double him and helps him get into better scoring spots.
Fortunately for the Timberwolves, Conley and Edwards both figure to be on the floor for Sunday's decisive Game 7.
