NBA Trade Rumors: Latest Rumblings on Trae Young, Kyle Kuzma and Darius Garland
While the top teams in the NBA continue their march to the league finals and a shot at the Larry O'Brien trophy, others have already turned their attention to the off-season and pursuing the stars that will, hopefully, have them in a position to win the most coveted prize in the game next year.
That includes those acquired through trades.
Who are the players who may be moving on from their current squads this off-season by way of deals that will net their new teams a key piece and their former ones draft picks and players to build around?
Find out with this latest collection of rumors and insider reports.
Spurs Have "Little Interest" in Trae Young
1 of 3
Trae Young figures to be one of the most prominent stars to watch this off-season as teams weigh the idea of trading for the point guard and bolstering their roster.
The San Antonio Spurs are not one of those teams, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reported.
"The Spurs, sources said, have expressed little interest in obtaining Young to date."
On one hand, the idea of adding a player of Young's skill makes sense for a team rebuilding itself into a championship contender. For that reason alone, though, it makes just as much sense that they would not.
Victory Wembanyama was everything the Spurs hoped he would be in year one, establishing himself as the future of the organization and the star around whom its championship hopes and dreams will revolve.
Bringing Young in potentially disrupts his development and evolution in that role, thanks to a larger personality in the locker room. Plus, there is no guarantee that the two will mesh on the court, which should create even more skepticism about bringing Young into the mix.
There will be a team that makes an offer and attempts to bring Young and his 36 minutes, 25.7 points per game, and 10.8 assists to their organization, but look for that to be a team that is third-star hunting or is a player away from a championship.
Not a young, rebuilding team with a budding star ready to become one of the faces of the league.
Kyle Kuzma Is One to Watch at the NBA Draft
2 of 3
Kyle Kuzma was one of the few bright spots for the Washington Wizards this season and according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.com, he may not be in the nation's capital much longer.
"Lastly, after drawing significant interest ahead of the trade deadline, including a near deal that sent him to the Dallas Mavericks, Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma is expected to be coveted again on the trade market by rival teams heading into the draft, league sources said."
Kuzma averaged 32.6 minutes and 22.2 points in the 2023-24 season, while shooting 46.3 from the paint and 33.6 from beyond the arc. That field goal percentage was the best of the forward's career, as were his 4.2 assists.
He is a prime candidate for a team like the Orlando Magic, who could use a facilitator on offense and a stronger shooter. The team has already been linked to Klay Thompson of Golden State but one has to wonder if the organization would save money by pursuing Kuzma.
Regardless, Kuzma will benefit any team that is willing to make a deal for him and rescue him from the abyss that was the 15-67 Wizards this season.
Darius Garland to Be Traded?
3 of 3
The Cleveland Cavaliers' season came to a disappointing, albeit somewhat predictable, end Wednesday with an Eastern Conference Semifinals loss to the Boston Celtics. In the wake of the defeat, the team faces questions about its future, including what the roster may look like come next season.
Shams Charania, Joe Vardon, and Jason Lloyd of The Athletic reported that is the team retains Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland's representation, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul, may ask the Cavs front office for a trade.
This comes amid questions surrounding Garland's fit with Mitchell and the idea that the team may have to choose one or another.
"After an All-Star campaign in 2021-22 in which he averaged 21.7 points, 8.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds, Garland's minutes, field goal and 3-point attempts and usage percentage have all dropped upon the arrival of Mitchell," the report stated.
Garland had his weakest season in years, scoring just 18 points (down from 21.6), 6.5 assists (down from 7.8), and shooting 44.6 from the paint (down from 46.2), adding credence to the idea that the point guard may be ready to move on from a team where Mitchell is the undisputed face and facilitator of the offense.
The Brooklyn Nets are in need of a point guard who can feed the likes of Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson. That situation, where Garland can be the star through whom the offense runs may benefit him, may be a great fit.
