Malik Nabers Explains $10K Bet with Jayden Daniels After Calling It Off for NFL Rules
New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers quickly learned there's no place in the NFL for friendly wagers.
Nabers and former LSU teammate Jayden Daniels scrapped a $10,000 bet they made between themselves on who would win Rookie of the Year in 2024.

"I'm educated now that I got here about sports betting and gambling," Nabers said, per The Athletic's Charlotte Carroll. "It was just another brother pushing another brother to try to get to success. That's all it was."
Midway through the 2023 season, the NFL amended its gambling policy to further restrict players' ability to bet on sporting events, whether related to the league or not.
Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio noted, in light of Nabers' comments, how a loophole appeared to remain in the policy. The rules only go into effect once a player is drafted, so Nabers and Daniels could've theoretically laid out the stakes well ahead of the 2024 NFL and not broken any rules.
There was too much on the line for either player to put that theory to the test. The league office has been all too happy to set precedents in terms of gambling-related discipline.
Daniels, who was selected second overall by the Washington Commanders, said Nabers wasn't supposed to spill the beans about their five-figure venture.
It might be good that he did, though, lest the NFL learn about it for themselves down the line and decide a serious punishment was in order.
