TMZ: Boxing Legend Evander Holyfield Calls Police on Fan Chasing Him in a Car in LA
Evander Holyfield recently called police on a fan who allegedly followed him after the boxing legend "refused" to autograph their memorabilia.
TMZ Sports reported the incident took place last month in Los Angeles following a meet-and-greet session. According to Holyfield, the fan approached the boxer in an attempt to have merchandise signed but was "refused" and instead "given a signed 8x10 photo." Afterward, the fan followed Holyfield on foot and then got in a car and followed in a car "as Holyfield's driver attempted to get away."
Police were then called and met Holyfield to ensure his safety. The cops determined the fan was no longer following Holyfield, and he was able to go on with his day.
No suspects in the case have been named.
Holyfield, 61, retired from professional boxing in 2011 as one of the most decorated heavyweights of all time. He's perhaps best known for his pair of wins over Mike Tyson in the 1990s, with the second bout made infamous for Tyson biting off part of Holyfield's ear.
The legend returned to the ring in 2021 for an exhibition bout against Vitor Belfort.
