POSITIVES

— Shows solid instincts versus the run. Decent at keying and diagnosing plays and is in the right spot more often than not.

— Good lateral movement skills to cover multiple gaps as a run defender or tighten windows in zone coverage. Could develop this and use it to make offensive linemen miss against the run.

— Uses hands well in coverage and takes on blocks with his hands.

— Has experience playing special teams.

NEGATIVES

— On the smaller side with short arms. Had a below-average 4.63 RAS.

— Not very physical at the point of attack.

— Lacks strength to hold his ground when taking on blocks, even against blocking tight ends.

— Subpar awareness as the middle hook defender in zone coverage. Will occasionally leave threats open.

2023 STATISTICS

— 13 G, 83 TOT, 1.5 TFL, 0 SK, 1 INT, 1 PD

NOTES

— 4-star "athlete" recruit in the 2019 class, per 247Sports

— Also played running back in high school and had more than 1,300 rushing yards in each of his sophomore, junior and senior seasons

— Injuries: 2023 (Lower body, missed part of spring practices and had surgery)

OVERALL

Steele Chambers is a linebacker who could contribute on special teams in the NFL. He shows more athleticism on the field than his athletic testing numbers would suggest, but he isn't an overly physical tackler.

Chambers is at least worth bringing into training camp to see what he can do, but he'll likely need to stand out on special teams in the preseason to make a 53-man roster.

GRADE: 5.4 (Backup/UDFA with Roster Potential — UDFA)

OVERALL RANK: 242

POSITION RANK: LB21

PRO COMPARISON: Shaun Dion Hamilton
