Jets' Team Needs to Fill in 2024 NFL Draft
The New York Jets have a fascinating decision to make at the No. 10 pick of the 2024 NFL draft.
The Jets need help at both wide receiver and offensive tackle, but it is highly likely they will choose from the second-or-third-best options at each position.
Only a trade up to the No. 4 or No. 5 pick would allow the Jets to land the best player available at either position.
That means the Jets will likely have to choose the best player based on fit at either position of need, or they could just take the best overall player, who could be the top tight end in the draft class.
Wide Receiver
1 of 3
The addition of Mike Williams is not enough for the Jets to feel content with their wide receiver room.
Williams comes to the Jets with a long list of injury issues and the team is one injury away from putting all the pass-catching pressure on Garrett Wilson once again.
The depth after Wilson and Williams is average at best with Allen Lazard and Xavier Gipson.
New York could land one of the draft's elite wide outs at No. 10 if the draft shakes out in its favor.
Bleacher Report's NFL scouting department mocked Marvin Harrison Jr. to Arizona at No. 4, Rome Odunze to the New York Giants at No. 6 and Malik Nabers to Tennessee at No. 7.
The Jets have to hope that the quarterback gold rush takes over the top nine picks in the form of a few trades.
There is also a chance that Tennessee, who signed Calvin Ridley in free agency, does not pick a wide receiver. Atlanta and Chicago at Nos. 8 and 9 do not need wide outs, so that would leave the Jets in a position to land one of the top-tier pass-catchers to their unit led by Wilson.
Offensive Tackle
2 of 3
The Jets retooled their offensive line in free agency with the additions of Tyron Smith and John Simpson.
However, the addition of Smith at left tackle is only a short-term fix on a one-year deal.
That should put the Jets in the offensive tackle market at No. 10 if they miss out on the top three wide receivers.
B/R's NFL scouting department mocked Oregon State's Taliese Fuaga to the Jets at No. 10 in their most-recent prediction.
Fauga, or any offensive line draft pick, would have time to learn under Smith and Morgan Moses before potentially taking over a starting spot in the regular season.
Selecting an elite offensive lineman after Smith's signing might seem redundant in 2024, but it would be the wise move to gear up for the future.
Tight End
3 of 3
Georgia tight end Brock Bowers could be the best player available at No. 10.
Tight end is not the Jets' primary draft need with Tyler Conklin on the roster, but the Jets have to at least consider Bowers in the right circumstance.
If all three top-tier wide outs are off the board and the Jets do not like the offensive tackles available, they could add Bowers as another across-the-middle option for Aaron Rodgers.
Bowers, who was mocked to Indianapolis at No. 15 by B/R's NFL scouting department, would fill the pass-catching need that another wide receiver would fill.
That would allow the Jets to focus on other positions for the rest of the draft. They could then add a veteran on a cheap deal, or a late-round pick to the roster instead of doubling down at the start of the draft.
