Report: Scott Drew Will Remain Baylor HC amid Louisville Links Ahead of March Madness

Baylor men's basketball head coach Scott Drew will remain with the Bears despite being linked to the same position at Louisville, college basketball insider Jeff Goodman reported on Wednesday:

The news comes after Drew said he is "locked in on Baylor" in response to the Louisville rumors.

The Cardinals need a new head coach after parting ways with Kenny Payne after just two seasons. As Goodman noted, Drew was a target, but he's staying in Waco.

Drew has coached at Baylor since 2003, winning 445 games along the way. He led the Bears to their first-ever national title after they took down undefeated Gonzaga in 2021.

Whoever takes over the Louisville job has a lot of work to do. The team hasn't rebounded since the end of the Rick Pitino era, failing to win even one NCAA tournament game. The Cardinals just went 12-52 in two years under Payne, including a 5-35 ACC record. That includes a pair of last-place finishes in conference action.

However, Louisville has historically been one of the better programs in college basketball, and it's still a prestigious job. Prospective candidates that have been linked to the job include UCLA's Mick Cronin, FAU's Dusty May, Arkansas' Eric Musselman, Indiana State's Josh Schertz and Charleston's Pat Kelsey.

Ultimately, Drew isn't headed to Louisville, but someone else will be up to the challenge of trying to restore a program that was routinely one of the best in the nation not too long ago.
