NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: Marvin Harrison Jr. Won't Work Out at Ohio State Pro Day

Mike ChiariMar 20, 2024

Ohio State wide receiver and top 2024 NFL draft prospect Marvin Harrison Jr. is reportedly not expected to work out Wednesday at Ohio State's pro day.

According to Albert Breer of The MMQB, teams have been informed that Harrison will not partake in any drills given that he is likely already cemented as one of the top picks in the draft.

Breer noted that no NFL head coaches or general managers are scheduled to be present at Ohio State's pro day since Harrison isn't participating and most of OSU's other top players opted to stay in school for the 2024 season.

Harrison did not do any on-field drills at the NFL Scouting Combine either, and per Breer, the superstar receiver asked some of the teams he met with at the combine if there was anything they needed to see out of him at the Ohio State pro day.

A representative from one of those teams told Breer they "laughed" at the idea of Harrison needing to prove something more than he already did during his time at OSU.

After playing sparingly as a freshman in 2021, Harrison established himself as one of the premier wideouts in the nation over the next two seasons.

In 2022, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison racked up 77 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. He followed that up with similar production last season, finishing with 67 catches for 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns, plus a rushing score.

It seems likely that the first three players off the board in April's draft will be quarterbacks. The Chicago Bears are likely locked in to taking USC's Caleb Williams first overall after trading Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the Washington Commanders figure to take either LSU's Jayden Daniels or North Carolina's Drake Maye second overall after trading Sam Howell to the Seattle Seahawks.

The New England Patriots own the third pick, and they also need a QB, so they could take either Maye or Michigan's J.J. McCarthy, or they could trade the pick to another quarterback-needy team like the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings or Denver Broncos.

That means the No. 4 overall pick is probably the first spot where Harrison will potentially come into play.

The Arizona Cardinals are scheduled to pick fourth overall, and since they have already committed significant money to Kyler Murray, quarterback isn't on their radar.

Murray would benefit from a big-time weapon after losing wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown in recent years, so Harrison makes a ton of sense at No. 4.

The 2024 draft class is considered one of the best for wide receivers in recent memory, as LSU's Malik Nabers and Washington's Rome Odunze are viewed as likely top-10 picks along with Harrison.

Other potential first-round wideouts include LSU's Brian Thomas Jr., Texas' Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy, Florida State's Keon Coleman, Georgia's Ladd McConkey, Oregon's Troy Franklin and South Carolina's Xavier Legette.

If Harrison is the first receiver off the board as expected, it will speak volumes about how NFL talent evaluators feel about his potential to be a star at the next level.

The BR NFL Scouting Department rates Harrison as the No. 1 overall player in the 2024 NFL draft class on its latest big board, and projects him to go fourth overall to the Cardinals in its most recent mock draft.
