Players Championship 2024 Leaderboard: Live Look at Sunday Scores, Predictions

Kristopher KnoxMar 17, 2024

The final round of the 2024 Players Championship is underway, and Sunday's action promises to be fantastic.

The tournament, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, has been a golfer-friendly affair this year. Good weather and a forgiving course have led to some extremely low scores at TPC Sawgrass.

Competitors haven't been battling the course so much as racing one another to rack up birdies. Xander Schauffele exited Day 3 with a score of 17-under for the weekend, and he only carried a one-stroke lead over Wyndham Clark and a two-stroke lead over Brian Harman.

Schauffele and Clark aren't scheduled to tee off until 1:40 p.m. ET, but many of the competitors chasing them have already gotten started. Here, you'll find a look at the latest developments and a few final predictions.

Weekend Recap

2 of 3

For fans of high-quality, low-scoring golf, this weekend has been incredible. Clark was on a tear to open the tournament, posting back-to-back rounds of 65 before slipping on Day 3 with a score of 70.

Schauffele posted his second round of 65 on Saturday, taking advantage of Clark's miscues to pull ahead. Harman was even after Day 1 but put himself in contention with scores of 65 and 64 in Rounds 2 and 3, respectively.

However, it doesn't feel like anyone is going to truly pull away on Day 4. Scores in the mid-60s have come frequently, and 11 golfers entered Sunday at minus-10 or better.

It hasn't been smooth sailing for everyone, however. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler—who is vying to become the first back-to-back champ in the tournament's history—has been battling a neck injury he suffered on Friday.

Rory McIlroy, who trails only Scheffler in the world golf rankings, had another drop controversy and a tense exchange with Jordan Spieth on Thursday.

For the most part, though, the last three days have featured some of the world's best doing what they do best. And unlike the last couple of years, weather hasn't been a significant factor.

Fans can and should expect more of the same throughout Sunday.

It certainly feels like one of Saturday's clubhouse leaders will walk away with the trophy and the $4.5 million winner's share. Raymond Floyd holds the record for the largest comeback victory in the tournament's history, which he achieved by overcoming a six-shot deficit in 1981.

Only seven golfers entered Sunday within six strokes of Schauffele.

Round 4 should be set for a thrilling finish, though. Schauffele and Clark will be paired together and will be the last to tee off. Harman and Maverick McNealy will start at 1:30 p.m. ET, while Matt Fitzpatrick and Sahith Theegala will tee off 10 minutes prior.

Scheffler and Nate Lashley will begin their final rounds at 1:10 p.m. ET.

The defending champ will be worth watching, even if he's a full five shots off the lead. Scheffler is the world's No. 1-ranked golfer for a reason, and he's perfectly capable of shooting in the low 60s if everything goes right.

But, for Scheffler or anyone else to catch Shauffele, they'll need help. Clark held what felt to be a commanding lead entering Saturday, but he faded just enough to provide an opening.

While it's hard to predict Schauffele doing the same—he's posted scores under 70 on all three days—the prediction here is that Clark returns to the form he showed on Days 1 and 2.

Clark's biggest mistake of Day 3, a water shot on Hole 17, was followed by a masterful series. The 30-year-old re-teed instead of taking a drop, played the hole flawlessly and escaped with just a bogey.

"I'm hoping that's a huge point in the tournament and we look back after tomorrow and look at that hole and say, hey, that was maybe the shot and the putt that meant it all," Clark said, per Jessica Marksbury of Golf.com.

Clark managed to avoid disaster following his biggest flub of the weekend. If he can avoid that one big miscue in the final round, he'll have every chance to retake the lead.
