Fields will be behind Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh as the franchise will have a position group that is unrecognizable from the 2023 season.
Fields is set to have a cap hit of $3.2 million in 2024 and will be up for a new contract following the season. According to Over The Cap, the Steelers will have $11.8 million in cap space remaining after making this trade.
Here is a look at the updated offensive skill position depth chart for Pittsburgh.
QB: Russell Wilson, Justin Fields

WR: George Pickens, Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, Marquez Callaway, Denzel Mims, Dez Fitzpatrick, Keilahn Harris, Deuce Watts

The trade puts a major question from the offseason to rest. The Bears possess the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and have first dibs on landing USC quarterback Caleb Williams. Fields' presence complicated that choice, but this trade appears to signal that the Bears will likely select a quarterback with that top pick.
The Bears are taking a dead cap hit of $2.77 million from the trade, per Spotrac. According to Over The Cap, the Bears have approximately $54 million remaining cap space.

The move gives Fields a chance at a fresh start in Pittsburgh and also means that the franchise has only $4.5 million tied up in the quarterback position.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported that Wilson will be the starter, so Fields will assume the backup role as he waits for his next opportunity to be a starter.
He has shown promise during his time in the NFL but has been inconsistent. He has thrown for 6,674 yards and 40 touchdowns with 30 interceptions, while also adding 2,220 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. He has gone just 10-28 as a starter, but will join a Steelers team that went 10-7 and reached the postseason in 2023, so this could be a culture change for the 25-year-old.
Chicago will now close the Fields chapter and look towards the future with a fresh rookie contract and a team that showed strides in 2023 and added offensive weapons Keenan Allen and D'Andre Swift this offseason.
The 2024 NFL Draft is set to take place April 25-27 in Detroit.
