Ndamukong Suh: Matt Millen Right to Defend Lions Superstar

Alex KayJun 7, 2018

Matt Millen, the former president of the Detroit Lions and current ESPN broadcaster, decided he was sick and tired of people trashing Ndamukong Suh for being a “dirty” player.

Millen went off during the halftime segment of ESPN Radio’s coverage of the Sugar Bowl between Michigan and Virginia Tech, as reported by Carlos Monarrez of The Detroit Free Press.

"

"There's 32 teams in the league. Call the other 31 and ask them if they want him. End of story.

"I don't care what you call him. All the media people are trying to say he's dirty. Dirty? When I played, that was commonplace. And I hate to sound like an old fart, but the difference is he got caught on camera."

Suh became widely known as a dirty player for what he did on Thanksgiving Day against the Green Bay Packers.

Detroit's star defensive tackle got into a scuffle with Packers' guard Evan Dietrich-Smith and was shown slamming the man’s helmet into the turf and attempting to kick at him when he was down.

Of course, this was on national television during a national holiday and it received a ton of exposure. He was suspended for two games because of the violent nature of his actions.

Crazy things happen on a football field like this all the time, and if you go to the 2:45 minute mark of this video you will see the Texans’ Brian Cushing and a Browns guard getting into a scuffle that involves shoving and a head butt. The two were going back and forth all game like this.

No fines or suspensions were levied for these incidents, although had it been front and center during a holiday game, things could have been much different.

Millen has a point that getting caught by the cameras really makes a difference. You want guys on your team with a style of play that he described as, “aggressive, it's physical, it's take-no-prisoner kind of stuff. That's what you do. If you don't have that, you're looking for it. And they have it. They don't have to look for it."

Suh’s job is to bring quarterbacks down and stop plays, so if someone is getting in his way, you want him to fight back with a vengeance. All of the greats have done it and Suh is no different.
