Auburn Football: Has Michael Dyer Made His Last Carry for the Tigers?
It appears that the marriage between Auburn University and Michael Dyer is possibly now over. Speculation is swirling that Gus Malzahn may not be the only former Auburn Tiger that is heading to Jonesboro, Ark.
A report by Charles Goldberg with al.com touches on the situation as there have been multiple reports that have linked Dyer to transfer. No one at Auburn has officially announced his release or his intent to transfer. Dyer has not stepped out to say that he is no longer going to be an Auburn Tiger.
After an indefinite suspension occurred on December 11th, his role with Auburn became more questionable as the days moved on with no word on development. Dyer played a major role in the Auburn offense in the past two seasons, even becoming etched in history with "The Run" in the national title game.
Auburn has become known as running back U over the years thanks to the success of the rushing attack that has been the staple of the Auburn Tigers offense.
Dyer finished his sophomore season with 1,242 yards and 10 touchdowns this year for Auburn. It was his second consecutive year with over 1,000 yards. Dyer was also the first player in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in their first two seasons.
Dyer rushed for 1,093 yards his freshman year, breaking a record previously held by Bo Jackson for the most rushing yards by a freshman in a season at Auburn. Dyer became a first All-SEC selection this past season as well, further entrenching his legacy in the orange and blue.
At this point there is nothing but speculation that has led to his rumored transfer and change of scenery. Dyer has had a great career in the orange and blue and the Auburn fan base will hate to see such a special runner go.
After all, Auburn football is best when it comes in short yards and hard hits. Dyer filled that role well.
There is no definitive information that has shown that Dyer will transfer, but there sure seems to be a lot of speculation that leads in that direction from more than just message boards. Fox 16 in Little Rock, Ark. is reporting, however, that a family member of Dyer is stating that it is rumor and there is no truth to the transfer of Dyer to Arkansas State.
At this point there is as much solid information on the Dyer transfer rumor as there is on the coordinator search at Auburn, but unless something drastic changes, the signs don’t look good for Dyer staying at Auburn.
Dyer has the chance to be a very special player at Auburn and leave an amazing legacy as one of the best backs to play in Jordan-Hare Stadium. He also has the chance to leave and become a distant memory and ghost name in the record books.
