A.J. Brown Deal Not 'Firm'
Originally undrafted out of UAB in 2018, Williams carved out an important role during his four seasons with he Rams.
In 2020, Williams made 10 starts and recorded four interceptions and 14 pass deflections. He also had an interception returned for a touchdown during L.A.'s playoff run that season.
He followed that up in 2021 by starting 13 contests. Williams did not have an interception, but he defended nine passes and racked up a career-high 71 tackles.
Williams started all four of the Rams' postseason games, registering 24 tackles and three passes defended en route to a Super Bowl victory.
His playoff performance landed him a three-year, $30 million contract with the Jaguars in free agency. Before his career year in 2023, Williams started 12 games in 2022 and had 53 tackles, 16 passes defended and no interceptions.
While the Giants are set to return 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks and 2022 third-round pick Cor'Dale Flott at the cornerback position next season, they could lose a couple of key parts of their secondary.
No. 1 corner Adoree' Jackson is set to hit free agency next week, as is top safety Xavier McKinney.
Williams would be a solid replacement for Jackson, as Williams has 10 career interceptions and 62 passes defended compared to four picks and 56 pass deflections for Jackson.
The Giants ranked only 27th in total defense and 26th in scoring defense last season, and they are set to undergo a big change with Shane Bowen replacing Wink Martindale as defensive coordinator.
Some major personnel changes could also be in store, and signing Williams would give New York a quality corner with championship experience.
