NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: Commanders 'Received Trade Inquiries' for No. 2 Overall Pick

Julia StumbaughMar 3, 2024

The Washington Commanders have "received trade inquiries from teams" regarding the No. 2 selection of the 2024 NFL Draft, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler noted that these "might not be hard, actionable offers," but that teams had expressed "interest in moving up."

Potentially interested teams include the New York Giants at No. 6, the Atlanta Falcons at No. 8, the Minnesota Vikings at No. 11 and the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 13, according to Fowler.

Fowler added that he "would be surprised" if the Commanders moved down from No. 2.

Depending on which player the Chicago Bears select with the No. 1 pick, the Commanders will likely be able to choose between whichever two quarterbacks are left of USC's Caleb Williams, UNC's Drake Maye and LSU's Jayden Daniels.

Commanders quarterback Sam Howell, currently projected to be the team's starter for 2024, was pulled for two of Washington's final three games last season. He only played the season finale after backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett was hurt.

Even if the Commanders hope to give Howell another shot at starter, they at least need a strong backup ready to go behind him.

Keeping the No. 2 pick could be the best way to get that player— unless general manager Adam Peters, who was part of the San Francisco 49ers front office that selected Brock Purdy with the last pick of the 2022 draft, is willing to search for another gem later in the draft.

In that case, the Giants, Falcons, Vikings or Raiders might be willing to make a deal for a new potential future franchise quarterback of their own.
