Michael Penix Jr. at 2024 NFL Combine: Measurements, Highlights and Reaction
University of Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. worked out Saturday at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in hopes of putting himself in the conversation to be a first-round draft pick.
USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye and LSU's Jayden Daniels are widely considered to be the top three quarterbacks in the draft and could be the top three selections, but with all of them opting not to throw at the combine, it opened the door for Penix and others to shine.
Penix, who finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting last season after throwing for 4,903 yards, 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and leading the Huskies to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, was perhaps a major winner Saturday at the combine due to his measurables.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, Penix came in at 6'2¼" and 216 pounds with an arm length of 33.62 inches, a wingspan of 81 inches and a hand size of 10.5 inches.
Per Peter Schrager of Fox Sports and NFL Network, Penix has a top-10 hand size ever measured at the combine:
While Penix isn't small, a 6'2" quarterback typically doesn't have hands that big, so the measurement could work in his favor since it was far better than expected.
Hand size isn't necessarily a be-all, end-all thing for talent evaluators, but teams due pay attention to it since larger hands help with ball security and throwing in the elements.
Additionally, Penix had some major injury question marks entering the combine after missing significant time while at the University of Indiana before transferring to Washington, including tearing his ACL twice.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Saturday that his injury tests at the combine were positive and that he was given a clean bill of health:
He also impressed in the throwing drills:
He decided against running the 40-yard dash, according to ESPN's Matt Miller. But all in all, a solid day for Penix.
