Cowboys, Warriors, Knicks Top Sportico's 2024 List of Most Valuable Sports Teams

Tyler ConwayFeb 21, 2024

The Dallas Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl in nearly 30 years, but they remain atop the sports world when it comes to franchise value.

Sportico released its list of the most valuable franchises in sports Wednesday, and the Cowboys lead the pack at a $9.2 billion valuation. The Golden State Warriors come in second place with a valuation of $8.3 billion, with the New York Knicks ($7.4 billion), Los Angeles Lakers ($7.3 billion) and New York Yankees ($7.1 billion) rounding out the top five.

The top 12 and 18 of the 20 most valuable teams are based in the United States. Unsurprisingly, the NFL dwarfs all competition when it comes to valuation. Twelve of the 20 most valuable teams come from the world's richest league. The Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 51) and Cincinnati Bengals (No. 53) are the only two NFL teams that do not rank inside the top 50.

There are some interesting valuations on the list. For instance, the New York Mets—a major-market MLB team with one of the richest owners in professional sports—are given a lower valuation than small-market NBA teams like the Charlotte Hornets and Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Bengals being the lowest-valued NFL franchise was also a bit of a surprise given their recent run of success since Joe Burrow's arrival.

Still, it does not appear that on-field success has all that much correlation. The New York Jets, Washington Commanders and Chicago Bears have been perennial losers in recent years but still hold massive value. The New York Knicks would have been in the same boat until their recent run of playoff appearances in the last couple of years.
