Chiefs Rumors: Andy Reid Contract 'Extension Is More Likely Than Retirement' from NFL
There has been no shortage of retirement talk surrounding Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, but by most indications, a contract extension and raise may end up being the more likely scenario.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, "An extension is more likely than retirement heading into Reid's fifth Super Bowl appearance. Reid, one of the winningest coaches of all time, is in line to get a raise almost no matter the outcome of Sunday night's game. He signed a six-year extension after his first Super Bowl victory four years ago, and he has two years left on his current deal."

That follows Saturday's report from Dan Graziano of ESPN, who wrote that the "Reid retirement rumors have been floating for a few weeks, and Reid has been asked about them in Las Vegas. But the sources to whom I've spoken with would be very surprised if Reid walked away at this point."
And Kansas City owner Clark Hunt told Chris Russo of Mad Dog Sports last week that he envisions the head coach returning next season:
"We have that conversation each offseason and so, you know, that's a conversation we'll have at the end of the year," he said. "But I'm not expecting him to retire. He loves what he's doing. I know he's energized by the team that he has. I know he loves coaching Patrick Mahomes. He's got a generational quarterback. So, I look forward to having Andy as our head coach for many more years."
The Chiefs will let Reid coach as long as he wants. The 65-year-old is 258-144-1 in his career with the Philadelphia Eagles (1999-12) and Chiefs (2013-present) and has led Kansas City to nine straight playoff appearances, four Super Bowl appearances and two titles.
He remains one of the game's most innovative offensive minds, pairing with Mahomes to creative a dynamic attack in recent seasons. Even this year, when the team had a major deficiency of playmakers in the passing game outside of superstar tight end Travis Kelce, Reid, Mahomes and an excellent defense managed to get the team back to the Super Bowl.
He is undoubtedly one of the best coaches of his generation, and another title would likely seal his legacy as one of the best coaches in the history of the game, period. It sounds as though he'll continue to add to that legacy beyond this season.
