NBA Trade Rumors: Bulls Not Expected to Make 'Major' Deadline Move amid LaVine Buzz
The Chicago Bulls have fielded trade interest in several of their top players, including star shooting guard Zach LaVine. However, the team reportedly isn't pushing to make a splash before the Feb. 8 trade deadline.
According to The Athletic's Darnell Mayberry, "few within or around the Chicago Bulls organization anticipate the franchise making a major move."
Mayberry further added that "most will be surprised" if Chicago swings a trade before the deadline because despite the interest from around the league in multiple players, "there's a prevailing belief that the front office won't commit to something substantial."
LaVine has been involved in trade rumors throughout the 2023-24 season. The two-time All-Star has been slowed by injuries this year and hasn't played since Jan. 18 due to an ankle injury. He averaged 19.5 points over his 25 appearances, his first time averaging under 20 points since the 2017-18 campaign.
While LaVine is a coveted player who can be a difference-maker in the right situation, Bulls head coach Billy Donovan recently said he has not spoken with the 28-year-old about his involvement in trade rumors.
"I haven't talked to him about anything with the rumor piece of it," Donovan said. "I would just guess that with him being in the league for 10 years that these things would kind of happen. My talks with him have been more centered around his frustration with being out."
Mayberry noted that swingman Alex Caruso is considered Chicago's "most attractive asset," but the team is "clinging to" him and possibly overvaluing him with a high asking price. Aging veterans like DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vučević would also draw interest on the trade market, but the Bulls don't appear to be looking to move them either.
The Bulls will be in action on Wednesday night when they visit the Charlotte Hornets.
