LeBron James, Lakers Roasted by NBA Fans for Loss to Hawks Without Anthony Davis
The Los Angeles Lakers are back below the .500 mark.
Trae Young scored 26 points and Dejounte Murray added 24 as the Atlanta Hawks earned a 138-122 win over the Lakers, who were playing without Anthony Davis.
LeBron James struggled on the second night of a back-to-back, finishing with 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists while shooting 7-of-17 from the floor. Austin Reaves stepped up with a 28-point outing, but D'Angelo Russell (nine points) pulled a vanishing act and the Lakers defense failed to show up for the second straight night.
The Hawks and Rockets combined to score 273 points in pushing the Lakers to consecutive losses.
Suffice it to say social media was sounding off in the aftermath of another Lakers blowout.
While management has been adamant in their faith in coach Darvin Ham, it's clear the fanbase is fed up. The Lakers have a built-in excuse of being without Davis on Tuesday, but both of the team's superstars have been surprisingly healthy. Davis has missed only three games all season, and James has missed just six.
Both are on pace to surpass their career highs in games played with the Lakers. If any extended absence happens—as has been the case nearly every year of their partnership—the Lakers are a house of cards waiting to tumble.
A midseason roster retooling saved things a year ago, but Ham's barely above .500 over two seasons coaching a team featuring James and Davis. That's hard to fathom. It's equally hard to excuse. The Lakers have done nothing to build on their surprise conference finals run a year ago, and Ham likely would already be gone if it weren't for that trip.
With games against the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks coming up this week, it's possible Ham will not make it to the trade deadline.
