Warriors' Games vs. Jazz, Mavericks Rescheduled by NBA After Dejan Milojević's Death
The NBA announced Friday when the Golden State Warriors will play their rescheduled games against the Utah Jazz and Dallas Mavericks following the death of assistant coach Dejan Milojević.
The Warriors and Jazz were initially scheduled to meet in Utah on Jan. 17, and that matchup will now be played on Feb. 15 at 9 p.m. ET. Golden State's matchup against the Dallas Mavericks at Chase Center previously scheduled for Jan. 19 will be played on April 2 at 10 p.m. ET.
As a result of the changes, two more games were altered.
The April 5 matchup between the Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks at American Airlines Center will be moved to April 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET. Golden State's April 2 matchup against Dallas will be moved to April 5 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Milojević, a mentor to two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokić and a former player in his native Serbia, died Jan. 17 in Salt Lake City, Utah, after suffering a heart attack. He was 46.
The Serbian's death resulted in the postponement of matchups against the Jazz and Mavericks last week.
Milojević had been an assistant with the Warriors since 2021 and was a member of the franchise's 2022 NBA title-winning squad. He was a three-time ABA League MVP during his playing career overseas.
The Warriors returned to the court on Wednesday for the first time since Milojević's death, and they honored the assistant prior to tipoff.
Players wore shirts that said "Brate," which is the Serbian word for "brother," on the front and "Deki," Milojević's nickname, on the back. Head coach Steve Kerr gave a speech and the Serbian national anthem played afterward.
Following the United States national anthem, players removed their tribute jerseys and placed them alongside a white rose on the seat Milojević occupied during his nearly three years with the franchise.
The Warriors went on to defeat the Atlanta Hawks 134-112 on Wednesday, but they fell to the Sacramento Kings on 134-133 on Thursday.
Golden State sits 12th in the Western Conference with a 19-23 record and the team has struggled to string together wins despite boasting a talented roster highlighted by Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.
If the Warriors don't turn things around, they'll be in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2020-21 campaign.
