Schefter: Every Sign Points to Bill Belichick Not Getting NFL HC Job for 2024 Season
It's looking increasingly like Bill Belichick will not be on an NFL sideline during the 2024 season—and not by choice.
The Washington Commanders and Seattle Seahawks are the lone head coaching vacancies remaining in this cycle, and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported neither is currently interested in hiring Belichick.
"There are two [jobs] currently left. Seattle, which doesn't seem interested in Bill Belichick. And Washington, which hasn't been interested in Bill Belichick," Schefter said Friday on Get Up. "So every sign right now points to the fact that this hiring cycle is going to come and go without the greatest coach of all time landing a job."

The Atlanta Falcons interviewed Belichick twice for their vacancy but shocked many by hiring Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris. After interviewing Belichick, Jim Harbaugh and Mike Vrabel for their opening, many believed the Falcons were aiming for a starry name to replace Arthur Smith.
Instead, Falcons owner Arthur Blank chose Morris, a well-respected assistant getting his second crack at a head coaching position.
The Patriots and Belichick parted ways after the 2023 season. While the announcement was made in a way to honor Belichick's accomplishments in New England, it was clear the decision to move on came from owner Robert Kraft.
Belichick almost immediately interviewed for the Falcons job and seemed like a favorite to land the position. Blank was seemingly looking for a steady hand to steer the ship after a few years of rocky waters under Smith, and Belichick fit the mold.
The Atlanta position is, to date, the only job Belichick has discussed since leaving New England.
Belichick may take a year off to charge his batteries and return to the sideline in 2025, but it's also possible we've seen him as an NFL coach for the last time. Batteries don't recharge the same way at age 71 as they do at age 51 or even 61. It's possible a year off will allow Belichick to see life outside of football, and he'll decide to rest on his resume as the greatest coach of all time.
That said, it's going to be an odd sight heading into the 2024 season without football's most beloved curmudgeon.
