Lakers' LeBron James Breaks Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's NBA All-Star Selections Record
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James officially stands alone atop the NBA's All-Star Game selection list with 20 nods, now one more than NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
"I give credit and a lot of respect to my fans who have been along with me through this whole 21-year journey," James told reporters after a win over the Chicago Bulls on Thursday. "And voting me in as an All-Star starter for the 20th-consecutive time, just very humbled. Very blessed to be able to do what I love to do and just try to give back, give back to the game that's given me over two decades. So, to be able to know this is the first time ever in NBA history to have this many All-Star starts or whatever the case might be, it's very cool."
The 39-year-old James wasn't selected as an All-Star during his 2003-04 rookie season, but he's received that honor each year since.
It's another accolade among a litany of them for the 21-year veteran, who is still going strong as evidenced by his 24.8 points, 7.4 assists and 7.2 rebounds per game this season. Among many other honors, James is also a four-time NBA MVP, four-time NBA champion, 13-time All-NBA First Team member and two-time Olympic gold medalist.
James is also serving as an All-Star team captain for the seventh time. This year's All-Star Game format returns to the traditional East vs. West showdown, so James will be flanked by fellow West stars Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Dončić, Nikola Jokić and Kevin Durant in the starting lineup.
This year's All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 18 in Indianapolis.
