NFL Rumors: Eagles DC Sean Desai Fired After Playoff Loss to Buccaneers
In an unsurprising development, the Philadelphia Eagles reportedly moved on from defensive coordinator Sean Desai on Sunday.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni let Desai go as the team looks ahead to the 2024 campaign. While Desai lost play-calling duties during the regular season, Rapoport noted he "is likely to be in the mix for other DC opportunities."
Sirianni decided to give assistant Matt Patricia play-calling responsibilities ahead of Philadelphia's Week 15 game against the Seattle Seahawks, but things did not exactly go as planned.

While the Eagles defense looked improved in that contest as it gave up just 20 points in a loss, the NFC East team allowed an average of 29 points in the final three games of the season against the New York Giants and Arizona Cardinals.
Things didn't get any better in a 32-9 playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Baker Mayfield threw for 337 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions, and Philadelphia looked nothing like the team that reached the Super Bowl last season. It left plenty of questions about how the Eagles would move forward, and one of the ensuing moves was to part ways with Desai.
The writing was on the wall for Desai, especially since Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported in December that "before Sean Desai was demoted, the Eagles' defensive coordinator had lost his authority over third-down game planning, a process that began after coach Nick Sirianni's self-scouting of the team during the Week 10 bye."
Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported Wednesday that Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman had already started reaching out to potential candidates to fill the coordinator roles for 2024.
Things didn't work out for Desai, but he also has experience as a defensive coach for the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks and will reportedly get more opportunities in the future.
As for the Eagles, they will be under quite the spotlight and no shortage of pressure in 2024 after their late-season collapse.
