NHL Style Rankings: The Style King Reclaims His Throne
January is about simplicity and elevating the basics of your life. The holidays are over, but the days are still short and cold. We're too far away from the spring to look forward to that, so what do we do?
We best accept it, hibernate a little and focus on strengthening our core values and direction in life, so that we're ready when spring eventually does bloom.
Fashion follows suit.
When it comes to post-holiday winter fashion, often your best bet is to invest in the basics you enjoy wearing. Figure out what you look and feel your best in, get high-quality versions of those few items, tailor tailor tailor, splurge on a cool coat, and you're good for a few months.
The NHL's fashionistas are on the same page. The past few weeks of style in the league have been filled with refined simplicity and a few quality jackets. Let's dive in.
10. Jamie Oleksiak, Seattle Kraken
1 of 10
The Seattle Kraken started wearing these Adam Larsson bowl cut t-shirts and went on a nine-game winning streak. Coincidence? I think not.
9. Lars Eller, Pittsburgh Penguins
2 of 10
Want to look fashionable without going too rogue? One tried-and-true trick is a slight alteration of a classic look, and Lars Eller has nailed that here with his coat.
Look closely and you'll see a chic, simple design (and the right color to match) and then look at the neckline. The little things can make an outfit so much cooler.
I'm also loving Inspector Gadget to his right, and absolutely no shade to the perfect man who is Evgeni Malkin, but you can see the contrast in the details for the very similar looks.
8. Ryan Lomberg, Florida Panthers
3 of 10
Refined simplicity is the name of the January fashion game, and one look at Ryan Lomberg's textured suit tells you why. It's not a plain suit, but it's familiar.
7. Vincent Trocheck, New York Rangers
4 of 10
I try not to post the same outfit twice on these things, but I can't say enough good things about Vincent Trocheck's coat and the sheer power of investing in this closet staple for the winter.
I say this as someone who once forgot a jacket on a road trip to Winnipeg: Being the hardo without a coat is the opposite of style, even if it was an accident.
And despite what you've heard, discomfort is also the opposite of style. Anytime the weather gives you an excuse to wear one solid thing you can toss over an entire outfit, please take it.
6. William Nylander, Toronto Maple Leafs
5 of 10
I just love that William Nylander wakes up every day and decides what decade we're all living in.
5. Andrei Vasilevskiy, Tampa Bay Lightning
6 of 10
Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev once told me that Andrei Vasilevskiy gets upset because he has these really great outfits, but he arrives to the rink so early that they're never photographed.
Knowing that, it's pretty funny that the format of the tweet below unintentionally excludes Vasilevskiy, but if you click on it, you'll see the rumors about his style are true.
It's always interesting to see the warmer-weather teams' outfits this time of year juxtaposed with the mittens up north. Maroon is one color fit for any season.
4. Linus Ullmark, Boston Bruins
7 of 10
The hair! The glasses! The classic, grey suit and the pink accents! Another Ullmark banger.
3. Laurent Brossoit, Winnipeg Jets
8 of 10
First of all, solid photo-editing job by Jets admin. Secondly, say it with me: Elevated basics.
That's a great color on him, he knows it, and the suit is fitted to perfection. The jacket is equally well-fitted. The Carhartt beanie is an added plus.
2. Nikita Zadorov, Vancouver Canucks
9 of 10
Zadorov and I have our well-documented differences when it comes to fashion. He loves mock turtlenecks and double-breasted suits. I live in the year 2024.
But there's something about someone absolutely nailing the look that you know is their favorite, even if it isn't your own personal style.
This is the best iteration of Zadorov's look we've seen so far.
1. David Pastrňák, Boston Bruins
10 of 10
Tell a friend to tell a friend: He's back. The track suit is atrocious, and that's the point.
Anyway, I don't want to live in a world where David Pastrňák isn't wearing multiple florals in one week.
