Donovan Mitchell Scores 45, Thrills NBA Fans as Cavs Top Mikal Bridges, Nets in Paris
Donovan Mitchell scored 45 points (including 21 in the fourth quarter) alongside 12 rebounds, six assists and four steals to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 111-102 win over the Brooklyn Nets in Paris on Thursday.
Mitchell was the clear star of the show in Paris, which featured the NBA's third-ever regular season game there on Thursday. He made 15-of-30 field goals in his 41 minutes of action and also outscored the entire Nets' starting lineup 45-44.
Cleveland led by as many as 26 points in the wire-to-wire victory, but the Nets fought back in the fourth quarter and slashed the Cavs' lead to 91-84 after Mikal Bridges' three-point play.
Mitchell took over from there, however, by scoring 12 points in the final four-and-a-half minutes. He hit three-pointers on back-to-back possessions after the Bridges hoop-and-harm in addition to six free throws down the stretch to salt this game away.
Ultimately, this was another superstar effort for Mitchell, who has leading the team to success even without fellow stars Evan Mobley (left knee injury) and Darius Garland (fractured jaw). He entered this game ninth in the NBA in scoring with 27.2 points per night and looks destined for All-Star and All-NBA honors once again.
Fans and analysts praised another great Mitchell effort in this one.
Mitchell and the 22-15 Cavs have now won four straight games to move a tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs will look to make it five in a row when they host the Chicago Bulls on Monday.
