KAT: Gobert and I 'Laughed About' Criticism to My Reaction to Draymond's Headlock
When Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert was put in a headlock by Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, his teammate Karl-Anthony Towns didn't do a great job of breaking up the scuffle.
However, Towns said on Podcast P with Paul George presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment that he found the criticism he faced after the incident to be comical.
"We never had any problems, even after all of that," Towns said of his relationship with Gobert. "It's funny enough, me and him are laughing about it more than anything."
He added:
"No, I wish I could tell you something super good. I wish I could tell you something cool but honestly, we laughed about it. It wasn't even anything serious. We were talking about how we came out with a really big win there because we stayed composed, we stayed mature, and we made some really big plays at the end to win."
The fracas occurred less than two minutes into the Nov. 14 game between the Warriors and Timberwolves. As Gobert tried to break up a confrontation between Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels, Green came up from behind him and wrapped his arms around his neck before dragging him away and refusing to let go for quite some time.
Towns was holding on to Green but didn't do much to break the headlock. When asked further about what took so long for him to get involved, he said, "I don't know what people wanted me to do but it would've been three big old basketball players and a full Nelson would have been crazy. Just got full Nelsons going on."
On Saturday, Green was reinstated from his indefinite suspension that caused him to miss 12 games. He's still ramping up toward his eventual return to the court, but he has rejoined the team and Steve Kerr said Sunday there's a "good vibe" having him back.
Towns and the Timberwolves lead the Western Conference with a 25-10 record. Minnesota fell to the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday 115-108, the team's third loss in its last four games.
Towns and company will look to turn things around when the Timberwolves return to action on Tuesday against the Orlando Magic.
