NBA Legend James Worthy Rips LeBron James' Lakers for 'Embarrassing' Losing Streak
The Los Angeles Lakers' tailspin continued on Friday with a 127-113 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. They have now lost four straight games and nine of their last 11.
After Los Angeles' defeat, Spectrum SportsNet NBA analyst and Lakers legend James Worthy called the team's recent stretch embarrassing among other comments (53-second mark).
"The Lakers had no answer for the effort, the energy. They got stagnant, the ball didn't move. And you could just feel it and see it on their faces. They just didn't have what it took to compete with them.
"I don't know what's going with this team right now. To lose two at home back-to-back after coming back off the road trip...I don't know what to say about it. It's embarrassing. And they're not playing with any structure.
"And when they get in trouble, they go to a complete iso with no movement. It's easy to guard that. And Memphis just took it to them. And they hit the three tonight. It's just a tough loss man. Just tough."
It's fair to say LeBron James isn't taking the situation lightly whatsoever given his postgame interview.
The same goes for others.
L.A. is coming off an impressive run to the Western Conference Finals last year as a No. 7 seed, and the team largely ran it back for this season.
All appeared well earlier this year as the Lakers won the NBA's first-ever In-Season Tournament while starting 14-9. But L.A. has endured a disastrous offensive season (No. 24 in rating). Three-point shooting has hindered the team, to the point where the Lakers are third-last in threes made per game.
The 39-year-old James has done all he can in his 20th NBA season, averaging 25.0 points, 7.4 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game. Anthony Davis (25.2 PPG, 12.5 RPG) has also excelled (among some others), but the Lakers are headed in reverse as the season nears its midpoint.
The 17-19 Lakers will look to get it going Sunday when they play the Los Angeles Clippers.
