Titans' DeAndre Hopkins Could Fetch 2nd-Round Draft Pick in Deadline Trade, Exec Says
If the Tennessee Titans decide to pack it in ahead of the NFL trade deadline, they might be able to flip wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for a valuable asset.
The Washington Post's Jason La Canfora spoke to one general manager who thinks the five-time Pro Bowler could net a second-round NFL draft pick.
Hopkins has caught 27 passes for 376 yards through six games and has a modest $3.7 million salary cap hit for this season, a number that rises to $16 million in 2024.
Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson painted a much different picture when he reported on Oct. 20 that he didn't "see the Titans getting anything of value out of him" after contacting a few teams.
The Titans seem to be in selling mode, too, after trading safety Kevin Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles. At 2-4, they're last in the AFC South, and their outlook isn't good with starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill nursing a high ankle sprain. General manager Ran Carthon might as well see what he can get for his best trade chips.
You'd expect Hopkins to be on the radar of multiple contenders based on his contract and production. He'd be a great secondary target in any passing game without costing an arm and a leg.
The issue is whether Tennessee can actually get something meaningful back for the 31-year-old when his market was pretty lukewarm in the offseason.
The Arizona Cardinals released Hopkins in May when a suitable trade failed to materialize. Then he didn't sign with the Titans until July and only secured $11 million guaranteed from his two-year deal. That's a steep decline from the $42.8 million guaranteed he secured on his last contract with Arizona.
Especially with their present position in the standings, the Titans aren't exactly in a position of strength at the negotiating table.
