WWE: Does R-Truth's Return Mean a Possible Main Event Run?
Remember the first time R-Truth made you laugh?
You know Truth, the WWE underachiever who so many fans said had no place in the company? He had a tired old routine, and was just not talented enough to be in the spot that he was in. Oh yeah, and let’s don’t forget the fact that he should have never had a shot at the WWE Championship. Who did Truth think he was, after all? A headliner? A main eventer?
You bet your life.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
It’s a big statement to make. Trust me, I know. And, I also know that with my opening premise, that I probably just lost half of you. But, for those of you who stuck around, bear with me and I will explain myself.
At this point, you’re asking why. Why does Truth making me laugh have anything at all to do with what his spot should be in the company?
Simple. Because making him funny makes him entertaining. And, making him entertaining makes him relevant.
Now, just to be straight, we’re not talking about Santino Marella kind of funny. Much love to the master of the Cobra, as I happen to believe he does a pretty good job with his character week in and week out. But Truth is not that kind of comedian.
Santino is a loveable Muppet. Truth is that guy who ate paint chips as a kid and just has not been right since.
Truth is edgy, dangerous, and has a wild-eyed expression that is absolutely second to none. He looks as though he’s mentally unhinged, a man who has lost everything.
And a man who has nothing, has no fear. However, he does have paranoia.
Truth’s obsession with a WWE conspiracy engineered to hold him down was the thrust of his heel turn in the first place. “Little Jimmy” was to blame for his shortcomings in the business, because no matter how hard he tried to make the fans happy, they insisted on cheering for John Cena.
Despite how much WWE heeled Truth out during this time, and no matter how many times he insulted fans or told them to shut up, the fact is, he had never been more entertaining.
Fans laughed at his asinine spots and silly catchphrases. His wide-eyed delivery, combined with his straight faced expression, as if he actually believed everything he said. Truth was in his element, and it was only going to get bigger from there.
When it became apparent that Truth and The Miz would be paired together, my first response was “great, another random Miz tag team.”
But it soon became obvious that Awesome Truth were the perfect combination. They generated more heat than any heel duo in recent memory, and were featured in several high-profile spots on WWE TV.
Of course, Truth then got a Wellness Policy violation, and screwed it all up.
I don’t know if anyone expected what WWE’s next move for R-Truth would be once he returned from suspension. The company would have been well within its rights to bump Truth down the ladder, kicking him back to jerking the curtain, or not even using him at all.
Judging from what’s happened on Monday Night Raw the past two weeks, it seems as though Truth is back on track. This time, however, it appears that his baby face run will be renewed and now it is with more purpose.
It’s an old trick that has been used in WWE many times before. You take a good worker whose face character may be losing his edge and pop from the crowd, and you turn him heel, tweaking his character in the process.
Suddenly, fans start liking the guy again, entertained by either his humor or his heel persona, and the next thing you know, the worker turns face. He’s over to the moon, and all it took was a little retooling of his gimmick.
For me, this is R-Truth, and while it’s still very early in the game to consider him a bona-fide main event Superstar, I do believe he could be moving in the right direction.
Whether or not Truth is headed for the big time is anyone’s guess. What’s certain is that as long as WWE gives him enough opportunity and a little push, he will shine.
Take that, little Jimmy.
