5 Potential Chris Jericho Feuds That Could Rock WWE
Y2J has returned once again, and I for one am glad to see him back.
Chris Jericho is one of those Superstars that will never wear out his welcome. No matter how many sabbaticals he takes, or how many different directions his character will go once he comes back, the fact is that he is as fresh today as he ever was.
Jericho is a veteran who has the ability to not only get himself over, but to also elevate the man that he's working on any given night.
While most of the buzz around Chris is the fact that the WWE Champion will be in his sights, the truth is we got no indication of who he could possibly face off against once he gets back in the ring.
So, with that in mind, here are five potential opponents, five potential rivalries that could mean big drama, and big ratings, in the next few months, for Y2J.
Every possible opponent listed are currently face, as Jericho is hopefully returning as a heel. If not, then this little slideshow will not apply.
But again, right now, who knows what is really happening with Y2J?
So, just in case he reads this, turn heel, Chris. Because these five guys are ready to go.
R-Truth
1 of 5R-Truth is just on the edge of a face turn that could very well place him on a level even bigger than what he was as one half of Awesome Truth.
While getting dumped by The Miz may have put him in this spot, the fact is that if Truth is to move upward, he's gong to need some help.
Enter Jericho, whose heel character would be perplexed at Truth, who is not the happy-go-lucky Superstar he once was. Truth no longer caters to the crowd, or raps and dances. By all rights, he is a tweener at this point.
Chris would be caught off guard by Truth, who is unpredictable and capable of anything. But, Truth's reckless ways would ultimately get him in trouble with Jericho, who would capitalize on any moment of weakness, or lack of focus, as only a crafty heel can.
Jericho's straight-faced delivery, matched against Truth's wild-eyed antics, would provide some serious comedy, and likely have fans anticipating each and every spot between the two.
Jericho's work in the ring would mesh well with Truth, who has proven that he can hang with the best of the best.
This feud would help establish Truth as a big-time face, while showcasing Chris's ability to work with any sort of gimmick and ultimately find a way for both of them to get over.
Zack Ryder
2 of 5Talk about a guy who plays up to the crowd, can you imagine the shots Jericho would take at Zack?
For me, this would be a great feud: Zack, with his big smile, his enthusiasm, and his drive to entertain, matched against Chris, whose heel character is all business all the time.
Zack's rise in the company is due to his will to succeed, and the critical time in his career when he caught fire online. Many fans feel that Zack is the hottest star in WWE, second only to CM Punk.
By contrast, Chris Jericho is a veteran who paid his dues through years of hard work, climbing up the ladder rung by rung, until finally achieving success in WWE.
That difference alone would be enough to generate heat between these two, as Chris would likely view Zack's run as that of a guy who is very undeserving, and was handed all of his success without earning it.
Chris has done his part to help elevate younger stars in the past, and there is no reason why Zack Ryder should be any different. A program with Chris, in which Zack possibly even wins a match, would go a long way to helping him in his WWE career.
Sheamus
3 of 5Sheamus is the kind of face that Chris wants no part of.
Sheamus is strong, brash and fearless. He backs down from no one, and while he does play to the fans now, the fact is he was just on the wrong side of the fence, and is no stranger to breaking the rules to get what he wants.
He also does not buckle to mind games.
Chris's conniving ways and psychological approach would not even make a dent in the rough and tough exterior of Sheamus, who would rather fight than talk.
Jericho's view of The Great White would be that of a big dumb animal, a guy who has been manipulated by the WWE machine to be what the fans want, and expect, of a wrestling hero.
Jericho would automatically place himself above Sheamus in every way, not the least of which is talent, and intelligence, as no one is smarter than he is on any level of the company.
Even though Sheamus is on SmackDown, and Jericho will likely be on Raw, this feud could still work, as Superstars are constantly appearing on both brands, despite which program is their home.
John Cena
4 of 5Wait, does that mean that Kane is Cena's father? Weird.
Kane is doing everything he can to get John to embrace his dark side, to give in to the anger, and turn on the fans who both hate, and support him. So far, he has had no success.
But, along the way, perhaps another voice could be added to that effort.
Chris Jericho knows exactly what it means to turn on fans, and go into business for himself. He did it at the beginning of his last great WWE run, and now that he's back, he will hopefully return to that character.
Chris's steady, cold tone could be the thing that pierces through the thick exterior of Cena, who has always claimed that roughly three-quarters of fans hating him does not bother him in the slightest.
Really? Give Chris five minutes, I guarantee he could elicit a different response.
Much like Roddy Piper, Jericho has a way of digging to the core of the man standing across from him. But, with Chris, there is always an agenda.
Chris would attempt to get John to buy into what he was saying, while the whole time planning his next move to destroy the WWE icon.
CM Punk
5 of 5This is it, the guy that most fans point to as the first big feud of Chris Jericho's return.
Punk, the self-professed "best in the world," versus Jericho, the "best in the world at what he does." Worlds collide, indeed.
The biggest source of heat between these two men is their individual beliefs that no one is better in the business. This would lead to instant animosity, especially for Punk, who could likely view Chris as a worker very similar to The Rock, who left, thus allowing him to replace Jericho as the best.
Chris, on the other hand, would deliver the hard truth, that Punk is now a sell out, doing what the fans want, while becoming a top guy in the company.
I can almost hear Chris throwing Punk's line to Cena right back in his face.
"You once called John the New York Yankees. From where I stand, that makes you the biggest hypocrite of them all. Because Punk, you have now become what you hate. You have become John Cena."
Let the fireworks begin.
