US Army Game 2012: The Top 10 Prospects Playing in the Game
While everybody is caught up in the hype of all the bowl games, there is a game this weekend that will host the future of college football. It's called the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and it will feature tons of the top prospects in the country.
The top high school players will take the field one last time and show the country what they have to offer. Many will also make their commitments on which school they will end up playing football for. This game should be very exciting and will tell a lot about which teams will be in better shape, as several programs will land some top players.
While every player in this game is extremely talented, here are the top 10 prospects that will be participating.
You look at both rosters in there entirety here.
RB Barry Sanders Jr.
1 of 10Team: West
I'm sure you could come up with a few other players that should replace Barry Sander Jr., but is there really any other player you're more excited about? After seeing what his father is capable of, I'm just hoping his son is half as good as him.
Sanders Jr. is very much like his father as he is extremely quick, makes great moves in the open field and is even very impressive at catching the ball out of the backfield. His quick acceleration makes him a player worth getting excited over.
He has offers on the table from Alabama, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Florida, Florida State and Stanford.
QB Gunner Kiel
2 of 10Team: East
Gunner Kiel is considered by many to be the top quarterback prospect in the country. He has everything you look for in a quarterback, from the accuracy to the leadership on and off the field. He can make every throw there is to make. He has a great football IQ and a great feel for the game as well.
Really the only negative about him is that he doesn't have great arm strength, but that will come with time.
He recently gave his commitment to the LSU Tigers, after he was heavily considering Notre Dame and Vanderbilt.
WR Stefon Diggs
3 of 10Team: East
Stefon Diggs is one of the top receiver prospects in the country and is extremely fast. He makes extremely quick cuts to dodge defenders, and when he gets in the open field, good luck catching him. Diggs has great instincts and is a threat to take it the distance every time the ball is in his hands.
He will likely play wide receiver, but could also play running back, wide receiver or cornerback.
He's still considering Auburn, California, Florida and Michigan, among others.
DE Adolphus Washington
4 of 10Team: East
Washington has a lot of upside and is psychically gifted. He gets off the ball very quickly and runs very well. I'd like to see him become a little bit more disciplined as he tends to overrun the defender and end up missing the tackle all together. He is still raw and has to work on some things, but with his upside you can't ignore a player like this.
He's given his verbal commitment to Ohio State as he was looking at Alabama, Florida and Michigan, among others.
OT Kyle Kalis
5 of 10Team: East
Kyle Kalis is one of those players that every great offensive line needs. He is extremely tough, has a motor that just doesn't quit and a great combination of power and strength. He dominates the guy in front of him and really knows how to use his 6'5", 305-pound frame to his advantage. Overall he is a very tough and strong kid that is very fun to watch.
Kalis had offers from nearly every top school including, Michigan State, Alabama, Notre Dame and LSU, but ended up committing to the Michigan Wolverines.
S Shaq Thompson
6 of 10Team: West
Thompson is considered the top safety prospect in the country, but he has the ability to play other positions like running back or wide receiver. He is a fantastic athlete, with great instincts and solid speed. He's one of those players that could contribute right away and really help one lucky team's defense out.
Thompson is still considering offers from Washington, Arizona State, California, Oregon and Notre Dame.
RB Trey Williams
7 of 10Team: West
Trey Williams may be small at 5'8", 180 pounds, but he's a very tough runner. He's also very fast as he runs the 40 in about 4.3 seconds. He is a threat to take it the distance any time the ball is in his hands and is an underrated pass protector.
Williams ended up giving a verbal commitment to the Texas A&M Aggies, after having offers from Alabama, Oklahoma State and Arkansas, among others.
OT John Theus
8 of 10Team: East
In a class that has many solid offensive lineman, very few are as good as John Theus. He's 6'6", 292 pounds and plays with a lot of emotion and has a motor that just doesn't quit. He has very impressive footwork and is able to create huge running lanes for the running backs. Still a little raw at pass protection, but with his upside, he'll be able to improve in that category in no time.
Theus had offers from several top schools, including Alabama, LSU and Notre Dame, but ended up committing to the Georgia Bulldogs.
OT Arik Armstead
9 of 10Team: West
Arik Armstead is likely the top offensive lineman in this year's class. He has great size at 6'8", 275 pounds and is very explosive. He always has great control of the defenders and rarely ever gets beat as he tosses them around like toys.
Armstead has a bright future at offensive tackle and whichever team picks him up will be very lucky.
He's still considering Oregon, California, Notre Dame, USC and Alabama, among others.
WR Dorial Green-Beckham
10 of 10Team: West
Dorial Green-Beckham is not just my top wide receiver in this year's recruiting class, he's my top prospect in the country. This guy is a ridiculous 6'6", 220 pounds. At that height, he already has huge advantages over nearly every cornerback in the country. Any quarterback will look good when you're throwing a guy of this size the football.
He's the ultimate deep threat and a huge red zone target. Remember this name because he will become one of the top receivers in the country very soon and eventually a top draft pick in the NFL.
He's considering Alabama, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
