WWE 2012: 10 Resolutions WWE Should Have for the New Year
Happy New Year! 2012 is upon us, and the WWE is facing what I believe to be a very important year for them in terms of viewership, development of talent and decision-making.
2011 was one of the most memorable years in recent memory for me and I think 2012 has the potential to beat it by a country mile.
I have come up with 10 New Year's resolutions for the WWE to stick to, ensuring they will keep their position as the top company in the industry.
So sit back, relax and enjoy the read!
Keep Kane’s Mask on This Time!
1 of 10The WWE have finally shown some sense and righted a wrong that has marred Kane’s career for the last eight years.
Kane is once again the dominant force he once was for the first five years of his WWE tenure as the Big Red Machine.
He is even showing dominance over Cena which is something rarely seen nowadays with the rise of CeNation.
If they remove his mask this time it will be the end of Kane for sure.
If it is kept on I predict at least another couple of years of fiery dominance.
Ridding Raw of SmackDown Superstars
2 of 10The Raw SuperShow was a feeble attempt to garner better ratings and I think it is safe to say it failed anyway.
Not only does it take the focus off SmackDown due to seeing all the superstars on one show but it also prevents mid-card and lower card superstars getting a chance to show their talent on a live broadcast.
I would say if the brand extension is to continue and SmackDown is to be taped for the foreseeable future, then SmackDown superstars need to stick to SmackDown.
It isn’t as if the roster is weak, I’d even go as far as to say it is better than what Raw has to offer.
Ratings were the main reason for the SuperShow despite them not being a true reflection of viewership, so it should be scrapped this year.
Continuing to Develop the Tag Team Division
3 of 102011 was a great year for tag-teams.
Air-Boom and Awesome Truth were the stand out teams of the year and if the WWE continues to put directionless superstars together to see what happens then this slow climb to tag team prosperity will continue without a doubt.
With Hunico being the centre of a Mexican stable now, the tag team division should be extremely strong by the end of 2012.
Making Sure the Undertaker Goes out with a Bang
4 of 10If this is the last year for The Undertaker he needs a match that does his career justice.
He also needs to go 20-0 at WrestleMania despite the predictability as I do not think ANY member of the WWE Universe/IWC/casual fan would settle for anything less.
The Phenom is a legend like no other and the most important thing is that it stays that way.
There are a multitude of opponents who are considered strong enough to face him at WrestleMania and I believe whoever it is—Cena, Jericho, Triple H—The Undertaker is bound to give us all he has got—possibly the last he has got.
Keeping Triple H out of the Ring
5 of 10Triple H is a ring general who is widely regarded as a master of his craft.
However, I am a bit bored of him returning for the odd match.
It is fun to see The Game back in action but his physique leaves a lot to be desired nowadays and the fact that no-one really benefited from his in-ring presence only confirms that he should be a character who does not physically involve himself in feuds.
The only exception here would be giving The Undertaker a third WrestleMania match.
The IWC will have a split opinion on this I’m sure but I would personally love to see them compete one more time.
Taking More Chances on Newer Superstars
6 of 10Going into 2012, we have Daniel Bryan as World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk as WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes as Intercontinental Champion, Zack Ryder as US Champion and Air Boom as the Tag-Team Champions.
Who could have predicted that?
There is no better way to start 2012 and it is because WWE has finally taken a chance on superstars that don’t fit the mould of traditional champions.
This could prove to be very successful despite the latest rating reports as WWE has listened to what the fans want and therefore, people are finally becoming happy with the product.
I am a lot happier than I was in 2009/2010 as many aspects are heading in the right direction.
If they keep taking these chances in 2012 then the WWE could be heading for Attitude success.
Ensuring a Good Main Event Roster
7 of 10WWE has an excellent main event roster as they have correctly built superstars over the last year, ensuring there is no shortage of contenders for titles.
As you can see from the last slide I am having trouble criticising the WWE at the moment (I can’t believe it myself) so again, if the WWE keeps up the good work in its development of superstars, the main event will not be a problem—Cena or no Cena.
Maintaining Quality Pay-Per-View Events
8 of 102011 had some very memorable Pay-Per-View events, which is more than can be said for previous years. Maintaining this high level is going to be the challenge for the WWE this year.
Raw and SmackDown are essential in this as are quality feuds and interesting plot twists.
Keeping the viewer interested is a major part of keeping the buy-rate up.
Making the WWE Network a Success
9 of 10The WWE Network is set to start next year and from what we’ve been hearing, it is set for disaster.
However, I believe it is going to be a success (more optimism!)
The main focus of the network should be the current WWE product and the constant airings of classic episodes of Raw and SmackDown.
The reality shows that follow shouldn’t be too tacky otherwise people just won’t tune in.
As long as they broadcast what the fans want, I can’t see the problem with this new network and I see no reason why it won’t be successful.
More Violence
10 of 10This is arguably the most controversial resolution which is the reason it is the last point on this list.
Without trying to sound like a broken record, the end of 2011 showed us something else—the WWE is ready to start showing edgier, more intense, violent programming.
Up until recently, there have been worse things shown in cartoons than there has been in the WWE, but they have started showing a raw edge that I have not seen for a long time.
Blood has been shed, bruises been gained and the recent fights shown on Raw and SmackDown have proved that there is more to be offered for the adult viewership.
Randy Orton and Wade Barrett has been an extremely violent feud as was Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes.
I am not asking for blading to be re-instated or inappropriate material to be broadcast but a bit of violence never hurt anyone right?
